Topic: who hates Xmas ?? | |
---|---|
The true meaning of Christmas has been lost to our materialistic lifestyles and given a wrong meaning of seeing who gets the best and most presents. I am not a big Christmas person in that respect. I consider it the day our Lord began to dwell with mankind on earth. It is a special day in that respect. Hey Tom. You BETTER be getting me something!!! I got YOU something!! lol I still have some Turkey, ham and dressing (mmmmm mmmmm) set back for you in the freezer from TURKEY DAY. lol, I mean Thanksgiving! |

Well, it was fantastic when it was Christmas and not X-Mas. Sounds like a freakin video game. Christmas is not what it used to be even when I was a kid. But how can you hate it even now unless you're just a scrooge? Even with all the traffic, rushing, putting up lights, etc...isn't it great to just see kids so excited the night before and all the gleaming smiles on Christmas morning? Seems worth the trouble to me. Maybe if people remembered what it was about and tossed all the PC BS and just made it what it was meant to be, it would be better for everyone. |

the stress,. over indulgence ,..the traffic,.the crowds,.. teaches the youngest ones how to want " more " stuff,..they don`t need why can`t we just do winter without Xmas ??? How about just not doing the bad stuff and still having a holiday? I`ve always wondered why they called it a holiday,.I work for the post office -- it`s no holiday,.it`s just alot more work My Dad worked for the post office and with all the cards, fliers, catalogues he had to carry during the season I'm surprised he didn't hate Christmas also. |

I don't hate Christmas but I do dislike some things about it.
I'm well aware it is not the actual date of Jesus' birth but isn't celebrating it supposed to be what it's about. Seems they combined a pagan holiday with celebrating the birth of the Christ a while back & nowadays the pagan portion of it's winning out. I still celebrate, but try to keep the focus on giving & teaching my child the Christian meaning behind it. |

I don't hate Christmas...I hate what it's become.
It originally was a Pagan holiday called "Yule", which is a word still used today. But when Christianity took a huge sweep and became a major religion it became Christmas, and was celebrated as the day of Christ's birth (the Church is actually uncertain of the actual date). We give gifts to loved ones as a representation of the three wise men giving gifts to Christ. Same with Easter, which was actually called "Ostara". It was a celebration of the re-birth of the earth, the planting of new crops. But yet again, Christianity took it as Easter, and used that to represent Christ's ressurection (because again, the Church is uncertain of the actual date). Don't get me wrong, I'm not insulting or disrespecting the Church or anyone at all. I'm just saying I wish the holidays could go back to what they were meant to be... Just a celebration, a time to be with the ones you love. All back before greed and profit played a major part in our holidays. |

I used to enjoy Christmas, but now it's all about MONEY (and how much you spend). It ain't nothing but a looooong commercial now.
To me it's all about being with family, friends and loved ones. What ever happened to this idea? |

I'm doing the internal "Oh woe is me". I realized that this will be the 12th holiday season I have been without a significant other. 11 of them were absolutely my choice. Just hoped I'd have a special someone to share it with this year. I know, I know.... I have my health, my children, yadda yadda yadda............ consider yourself fortunate that you can be with your children,..that there is no signicant other who is goin to spoil that,. |

damn, jack , where the heck are you at? lol I'm working on some computers at LSU-Shreveport for the Business school. Can't ya tell? lol Tom, if you didn't come to Thanksgiving dinner because you were depressed instead of sick, I'm gonna have to see how tough an Airborne Ranger really is. I had hoped that you would show up to brighten my day and also because I know that all your people are far away. You know the invites open... holidays or not my friend. |
