Topic: Is this really a problem? | |
---|---|
I have been seeing this great guy for almost a year now. I haven't introduced him to my family. My family is not the greatest. A lot of issues with them. He has met my friends. He thinks that I am ashamed of him, which I am not. I try to make him understand that it is not him but my family that is the issue. Is this a problem? Or am I really the problem?

He thinks that I am ashamed of him, which I am not. I try to make him understand that it is not him but my family that is the issue. Is this a problem? Or am I really the problem? So take him once to meet your family so he can see what you speak of and assure him it's not him it the family |

Sounds like a problem for YOU, not him. We've all got nuts in the tree.

Yes to which part?

Go rent "My Big Fat Greek Wedding"....we all have families...many of us are ashamed of them...but they are what they are. If you are really into this guy...let him see where you came from...my 2 cents

Let him meet the family and find out for himself why you haven't introduced him.

You should introduce him to your family no matter what.If he really loves you he will not care about your family issues. That can be a test for him also |

Thanks for all the replies, but how do I reassure him until then? [/quo Tell him to come here and we will tell him.. He obviously likes you for who you are so you just be you and let him see for himself... If he is half as great as you say then he wont go anywhere no matter how jacked up your family is... If it makes you feel better, bring him to meet my family... he will run so fast he will jump into yours without a thought |

i say just let him find out for himself what you mean. and as for reassuring him till then, im sure just telling him that you will let him meet the family once the time is right. hes going to meet them sometime.

It seems to me that you might be trying to hide your family for either of three reasons,
one: you are ashamed of them and don't want to be associated in any way to them, second:you are ashamed of what he might find out about you from them. third: You are ashamed of him and even if you say you have issues with them you still respect their judgment and don't want them to see who you are sharing your life with. If you didn't care what they thought you would have presented him good or bad, good to spank them by showing him off or bad to piss them off by showing how bad he is. $0.25 worth of advice for free a good deal |

My family is very much the same way. I don't even have anything to do with them anymore. But if I did, I would warn him ahead of time and then introduce him. Let him make up his own mind, and if they really show themselves he will see the truth, and if he really cares he won't run for the hills!! Seriously, at least you show you care for him, and let him see what is really going on.

Everyone has family members that are a little off their nut. Introducing him to your family will show him how lucky he is to have you.....you could have turned out like one of them! Instead, he got the cream of the crop.
It also serves to explain some future personality quirk that you may develop later on :) |
