Regarding the issue of "change" --
The people who seem to be concerned about the CSers coming in and "taking over" are apparently seeing them as some sort of monolithic and threatening force, ignoring that these are individuals, just like everyone else is an individual -- This is a unique circumstance, in my experience. I have never seen this kind of "mass exodus" from one site to another, and I will be the first to admit that there may be some unforeseen issues which will arise. I do not believe, however, that these issues, should they occur, will be due to the facts that a.) a large number of people have joined more or less simultaneously, and b.) that the vast majority of these new people were all, at one time, on a particular site. If they occur at all, it will be because one or two or three individuals cannot function within the established JSH parameters, at which time those individuals will be dealt with accordingly. And, in that event, it makes no difference if the noncompliant individuals are long-time JSHers or brand new former CSers. All should be treated identically. At its root, a website like this one is nothing more than people joining together for various purposes. Take away the people, and you have nothing but empty pages. Any change in that website's population, even one person joining or leaving, changes the makeup of that population, albeit in a minuscule and mostly negligible way. Here we have a scenario in which many people have arrived at the same time. This ostensibly creates the potential for some sort of shift in the site itself, but nothing that I believe should concern us, until and unless we have some indication that the newcomers have a pre-existing agenda to mold the site into something other than what the creators of JSH had intended. And there is no way Vanchau and Mike would let that happen. A website, like any other living organism, will grow and change over time. It is inevitable. People will leave, others will enter. There will be assimilation problems for some. I am concerned with those who seem to believe that change is somehow automatically a bad thing. In the past (before the CSers even arrived), I would occasionally see threads about "What happened to my JSH? Where have my friends gone?" And the answer is: they have gone on to other things, other facets of life. Maybe they will be back, maybe not. In the end, the real issue is how can you -- each individual you -- get the most out of this site. I maintain that a stagnant, unchanging site ultimately works for no one except the few who are content to be insular within their own small group of friends here -- and that, I believe, is where the roots of the occasionally-referenced "cliquishness" lie. We have had dozens of excellent new members joining JSH, just in the four months since I signed up. The site would be poorer without them. Let us never believe that there must be an optimum number, a point where there are "enough" people on the site, and no more are needed. Because more will ALWAYS be needed. And let us not discriminate against newcomers solely because they come in a group, or they come from a particular site. Do you denounce prejudice? Or do you honestly believe this is a "loophole," simply because it affects "your" JSH, the one you are comfortable with? Think about it. Your JSH is not yours alone. That sort of self-centeredness and intolerance is not attractive. Again, just one guy's opinion. |

i think that any of us who have been here for any amount of time.. be it
a day, or week or year, know that mike and van would NEVER let the site go down hill the way that the other site did.. a good example of this is spay, and devin... and not to mention that none of us here would ever want for this site to end up like that ether.. this is a second (or for some first.. hehe) home to most of us here... and the family here has done a good job, i feel , in welcoming the csers, or should i say recent just say hiers, to our home.... once again welcome all.. |

I like you already Lex
Very thoughtful and articulate and I agree with you. We have been running a little amok in the Newbie section ... I think because we are just so happy to reunite with our friends. Thank you all for your patience while we assimilate into our new surroundings. I am a happy JSHer and am grateful for the warm welcome I have received. I have been one of the newbies exploring some of the threads and have been embraced by new friends. BTW I am REALLY REALLY sorry about the number nine pencil incident everyone - I thought you were kidding about the llama. I look forward to getting to know you all. |

Thank you Lex for your understanding.
naturally enough there are some thinking we would take over. They should bear in mind that we not always come in bundles in here. Though we play well together we all can stand on our own feet without the others. In the moment we are only exited to be together again, like a family that was parted for a while. I feel like home here already and I can't thank you all enough for your welcome. |

Lex -
Two fantastic posts. Thanks so much for making them. Vanchau and I try to stay out of the way of the discussions most of the time, but I just wanted to chime in quickly here to make a few minor points: - First, all of you are what make the site great. The members ARE the site - without you guys, JustSayHi would just be a bunch of computers, and what fun would that be. - Because you guys are what makes the site run, I can't promise that the site won't change. It's really up to you guys. When new people come in, or when old people leave, it's how you treat them and how you represent yourselves that will make the site what you want it to be. - The things I can promise are that we will do our best to treat everyone on the site fairly and with respect as long as they do the same. We will always have zero tolerance for personal attacks on other users. We'll never play favorites with anyone, new members or old. We'll make sure the few rules that we do have are followed at all times. And we'll do our best to always keep the site a fun and friendly place to meet new people and make friends or more Thanks again everyone for making the site what it is. We're really proud of what JSH has become, and we have all of you to thank for that. THANK YOU! Mike & Vanchau |
