well Im just sayin....if you've ever been to the ghetto..this is a horrible problem. do you send your children to school and pray they dont get SHOT daily? i dont, thank god, I got lucky somewhere and got offa the streets a long time ago. if you want to fix the problems that result from poverty....start in the ghetto. BUT if you think giving them help through welfare....OR coutning on the prison system to take care of the crime on the streets....well we have been relying on this for years..its NOT working, dont put more money into a broken system. these people dont have TIME for education. they need to freaking have a dependable decent paying job...and then maybe there will be hope for their children. and society. |

To me the ghetto is the projects where drugs, poverty and hopelessness rule and the streets are hardcore.where decent people live in fear of gangs and drive by shootings.

To me the ghetto is the projects where drugs, poverty and hopelessness rule and the streets are hardcore.where decent people live in fear of gangs and drive by shootings. ^^^^ yup this is my def of the ghetto. a person cant turn their back for a sec cause who knows whos behind them and what they want. gang colors walk the streets. children prostitute themselves for you. cops dont care about who robbed who...its who got shot or who is going to shoot at them. and maybe there are some DECENT schhols (meaning they have the money/teachers/curriculium to give to the students....BUT still they require security guards on constant duty and walk through a metal detector to get inside the school. where a child lives more in fear....than in hope for the future. where a woman is protected by who she knows and who she blows. no matter how old she is. its a viscious cyclic trap...very HARD to get out. education aint working. and neither are the cops. |

Wow touched all bases. The ghetto is that were you picture the poor?

Until the streets are taken back by the decent people, until the broken trust between the cops and the residents of poor areas is restored,I don't see education helping when you can make more money selling heroin then a real job. |

Wow touched all bases. The ghetto is that were you picture the poor? Where one pictures the poor is different then asking about the ghetto. The poor are everywhere. |

The poor are everywhere. exactly. a person selling drugs and stealing from his neighbors...isnt exactly poor. im talking about much more than poverty. for example.... ya want to eat and take your biotch out to eat...go to the corner and sling a rock. this is the ghetto. |

"ghetto" refers to an area where minorities are forced to live based on social or economic pressure. It comes from the Italian word meaning "foundry" which is where the Jews were forced to live in Venice under Mussolini
everything else ascribed to it is culturally connotational and specific to America |

Well, if you all are talking about drug problems, let's talk about more drug rehabs.
Addicts rarely have health insurance so they can hardly get into a rehab. Then there's the waiting lists. They are months long. The VA here has had their monies cut back so much and the waiting list is long so the vets only get 2 wks. of rehab and that's like getting a long detox. So...if we're going to the ghetto where drugs are more common and we offer them jobs, methinks that they need to get into rehab first. If they will accept. Which actually boils down to the fact that they don't have insurance for it. Just my 2 cents. |
