Topic: Obama gets stronger after the debate | |
---|---|
Obama is promising anything and everything now. You will get it! Low cost health care! You got it. Jobs for everybody!! You got it. Magical disappearance of partisanship? It's yours! Cutting the budget? Sure! Why not? Balanced budget? That's HIS plan! Help with your mortgage? You betcha! We can do this!! Help paying for your kids' college education?! Obama will get it for you! Obama is ready NOW. Ready to promise you anything! Don't worry it will all magically happen - just vote him in and you will SEE! You must believe. End to the war in Iraq?! Let him do it, we'll pull out tomorrow! Repercussions? Whatever - that's the Iraqi's problem. He will hunt down Bin Laden! Oh YES! Preserve all out social programs. Without question!! It is just incredible. I marvel at how he does it. He will... with my help, your help, winx help, frans help. you just dont get it. 1 man(or woman) can make a difference.... collectively. Did I hear my name? Yes, one day at a time, anything can happen. I am not in la la land. I realize it will a long time to clean up this administration's mess. And I realize how politicians talk too. That's how it always works. Btw, isn't McCain promising a lot too? The problem is that I don't like what he's promising. I also have a BIG problem with the Keating 5 affair. |

When you find out what McCain has promised, let me know. It's hard to tell with him talking out of the side of his neck. McCain's scared, and for good reason.......... His choice for VP, Sarah Palin and his "I don't have to stand for anything or answer to anyone mentality". Run McCain, run................................. |

1956 not truly sure who won yesterday's debate, as it truly bored me and was hard to remain focused on the issues (candidates and myself)... but love your responses Thanks, Fran |

Obama is winning the debates. McCain got a little better this time but he is still saying all the wrong things.
Americans want out of this illegal war in Iraq. Americans want to know that the bailout is really going to work. Americans don't want their health insurance taxed. Americans want a president who sees the struggle of daily life and McCain doesn't. The only fighting points that can be made are on John McCain's long service but considering he voted against his own, veterans, 23 times in his time. He voted with Bush most of the time, that is really going to hurt him. His record is really not all that impressive. He went along with big business alot of the time. Republicans always stand on higher taxes by the Dems, this battle is too run into the ground. Besides that you see how McCain works, give away a tax credit but tax the insurance. There are ways for the government to get money out of you without letting you know by taxation. Republicans are hip on this tip. |

I would be the happiest, if either candidate (not chosing sides) would just offer the truth, whole truth and nothing but the truth... but as Jack Nicholson said, "We cant handle the truth."
Until we get rid of that mentality - we shall not enjoy any change |

McCAIN STEALING OBAMA IDEAS
I thought my ears deceived me so I went back and looked at the debate transcripts of the VP Debate and the Presidential debate. VP DEBATE TRANSCRIPT: IFILL: Next question, Governor Palin, still on the economy. Last year, Congress passed a bill that would make it more difficult for debt-strapped mortgage-holders to declare bankruptcy, to get out from under that debt. This is something that John McCain supported. Would you have? PALIN: Yes, I would have. IFILL: Senator Biden, Senator Obama voted against bankruptcy bill. Some people have said that mortgage- holders really paid the price. BIDEN: 85 senators voted one way, and 15 voted the other way...with regard to bankruptcy now, Gwen, what we should be doing now -- and Barack Obama and I support it -- we should be allowing bankruptcy courts to be able to re-adjust not just the interest rate you're paying on your mortgage to be able to stay in your home, but be able to adjust the principal that you owe, the principal that you owe. That would keep people in their homes, actually help banks by keeping it from going under. But John McCain and the governor don't support that. There are ways to help people now. IFILL: Governor Palin, is that so? PALIN: I want to talk about, again, my record on energy versus your ticket's energy ticket, also.... PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE TRANSCRIPT: Shaffer: With the economy on the downturn and retired and older citizens and workers losing their incomes, what's the fastest, most positive solution to bail these people out of the economic ruin? Brokaw: Sen. McCain? McCain: You know that home values of retirees continues to decline and people are no longer able to afford their mortgage payments. As president of the United States, Alan, I would order the secretary of the treasury to immediately buy up the bad home loan mortgages in America and renegotiate at the new value of those homes -- at the diminished value of those homes and let people be able to make those -- be able to make those payments and stay in their homes. |

An economist was on the radio talking about something similar to this day before the debate. Bank of America is considering lowering the interest rates for people close to foreclosure. There were other ideas too.
|

Most banks lowered their rates today, how this helps any already existing loans not sure (someone please enlighten me).
AIG - received x amt of funds to bail it out and throws itself a party valued at x amt... what was the purpose of the bail out, to fund their party? why are they not held liable to return funds as they obviously didnt not need. just questions that keep popping in and outta my head... |

The economist said that they are also considering having them pay only the interest for awhile. But..that only helps short-term and they could end up owing more in the long run.

I know. When I was listening to the economist, I was wondering the same thing. I believe they are going to start negotiating with people who are in foreclosure to "adjust" the price of the house, lower their interest rate and let them stay in it. This is getting crazy. If somebody has a $250,000 home, it (the principle)could be lowered to $150,000 (current market value)so they could afford the payments. It might work but I could see where some people would be pulling shenanigans. |

This morning the economist on the radio was talking again.
He talked about McCain's plan for the banks to buy the mortgages. He said that rewards the banks and the tax payers will have to pay for it. I don't like the sound of that. |

So...is this what could happen? The government buys the banks. Then if McCain is President, the banks buys the mortgages? If it plays out like that, it sounds like the banks would get rewarded two times and the taxpayers foot the bill. |
