Do we not accept “scientific” explanations for phenomenon as “fact”, even though those explanations are based on unproven (and often unprovable) theories???

So how then, is an acceptance of a “scientific” explanation any different from acceptance of a “spiritual” explanation for any phenomenon? (e.g. OBE, NDE, RV, et al)

Isn’t it all just a matter of which “primary assumptions” you wish to believe in/agree with?

Just something to think about.

You are quite right in your assumption. Unfortunately assumptions have created warsglasses

Oh I quite agree. In fact, I would go so far as to say that there never has been a war that wasn't created by an assumption at some level.

I agree that assumptions have helped to create wars, but moreso greed and envy.slaphead

Greed and envy have been present as long as History has been recorded and are the root causes of wars.

There is no shaking my faith in Our Creator, too much evidence points to the fact there is a higher power. A Spirit that exists in everything, especially The Planet Earth.biggrin

BTW: Science swings back and forth too much for me to waste my time believing it is the "Magical Cure" for mankind...noway

It is assumption that is the basis of most of our evils. A person can assume you are this or that and make a judgement....then that judgement becomes their truth without any evidence whatsoever. Thats the reason Jesus told us Judge not. Ironically a life without assumption is a life of true freedombigsmile

"Science" is just another religion, the main diff. is man created the sciences, therefore we can blame him - he's not omnipotent or omniscient, just man. you don't have to believe in him or them, you wont go to hell for being an "atheienceist" bigsmile

If you add a cup full of science to a batch of christianity, you will get homo-christy-sapiens, and if you add a cup full of monotheism to science you get "what in gods name is the answer????

What gets me is, GOD is a Spirit... NOT someone who is going to walk up and smack you like you were a naughty child....

But to be able to understand that has to come From the Spirit that Our Creator breathed into mankind at the start....biggrin

I can't explain why some people never get it.....noway

They don't get it because they are seeking physical answers they can put their hands on....unfortunately thats not always a reality. The ancient Greeks vailidated the atom long before electron microscopes. Sometimes you have to have faith and long after that the reality of that faith becomes evident

"Facts" are simply agreements.
"Theories" are fictions backed up by a few "facts."

The truth is everything is "opinion."

Perception is everything. Without ideas, we are simply biological robots.

Belief is foundation.

I'VE SEEN WHAT MAN IS CAPABLE OF DOING TO HIS FELLOW MAN, AND I'VE WITNESSED SCIENTISTS WHO HAVE THE ANSWER ONE MINUTE, THEN A NEW ONE A FEW MINUTES LATER. I PUT VERY LITTLE FAITH IN MAN, AS MAN WILL ALWAYS LET YOU DOWN IN THE END.....DEATH COMES FOR US ALL. I JUST BELIEVE IN A CREATOR, AND THAT I AM A CREATION. I ONLY KNOW WHAT HE WANTS ME TO KNOW. THE TRUTH IS FOR HIM TO KNOW, I'LL JUST BE AMAZED AT THE AWESOME THINGS HE CREATED, AND BE IN AWE OF IT UNTIL I FINALLY GET TO GO BACK HOME, WHEN MAYBE I'LL FINALLY KNOW SOME REAL ANSWERS. BUT UNTIL THEN, I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT SOME SCIENCE STUFF IS PRETTY FREAKING COOL.....

Having spent the bulk of my life studying and participating in the sciences I would have to disagree with you.

You make is sound like science is just a bunch of guesses that could be wrong. I personally think that is an extremely naive view to take.

Science dicovered radio waves and how to use an manipulate them. We use radio all the time. Is that nothing a mere speculation?

Ask the Japanese who live in Hiroshima and Nagasaki if the atom bomb was just speculation.

What about nuclear power generators? Are they just speculation too?

I think science has proven itself through technology.

The predictions of Albert Einstein's 'Theory' of Relativity have been proven to be real properties of the universe. Time really does dilate and the effects can be measured. In fact, they are observed to be the case in particle accelerators all the time.

The predictions of quantum mechanics have also been observed to be the true nature of the universe.

Is that mere speculation?

How anyone can compare science with religion is beyond me.

There is nothing in the Bible that has been shown to be true. On the contrary the things that it teaches have been shown to not be true.

Jesus said that anything we ask in prayer and believe we will recieve.

Well there are many people who believe in Jesus and who prayed for droughts to end, or storms to subside or change their course.

It doesn't appear to be working.

Either Jesus lied, or no one knows how to pray properly. It doesn't really matter which explanation you choose to believe, the bottom line is that it hasn't panned out.

I don't see any comparison at all between religion and science.

Science has proven itself. Religion has not.

The difference is pretty vivid if you ask me.

To compare science with religion is truly a joke Skyhook. I'm really surprised that you would even suggest such a thing to be quite honest about it.

Also, science and religion aren't even on the same level.

Science is based on investigation, experiment, evidence, experience, and even the actual measurement or construction of the results.

Religion is based entirely on faith. A belief in things that are fundamentally unprovable.

They aren't even in the same ballpark much less playing the same game.

Putting your faith in a God is cool.

However, if you put your faith in something like the Bible you are fooling yourself if you think you aren't putting your faith in man.

Men wrote the Bible. They are asking you to believe that they speak for God.

When you put your faith in the Bible you are putting your faith in man, not in God.

shouldn't judge someone in as far as saying you are going to hell if you don't believe as I do. I make judgements all the time as to how I percieve people I meet and wether they are the type of folks I would want to hang around with though. Never make a decision like that quickly , however, I find that most of the time, ones first instinct or gut feeling pans out.

Abracadabra is at the very least a split personality. One of them is a pragmatic scientists and the other one is a magician who practices magic.

One of them is agnostic and the other one believes everything is God.

well from what I've studied it seems to me that all sciences originated in or around the medeterrainan area, the three main sciences show aspects of a monotheistic scientific theology of a god named "MATH", from there it spread to all corners of the earth.

I think people totally misunderstand the idea of 'judging' others.

When you decide whether or not you want to hang around with someone, you are passing judgment on them. All you're doing is deciding whether or not you think you'd enjoy their company. That's not 'judging' them in a moral sense.

When a religious figure like Jesus says not to judge others, he's not saying that you shouldn't make decision of who to hang out with. He's simply saying not to judge them morally.

That's a huge difference.

There are a LOT of people I'd rather not hang out with. But I pass no judgments on them at all.

Deciding not to hang around with someone, and judging them morally are two entirely different things.

The only thing is that the God name "MATH" actually exists and can perform 'miracles' right before your very eyes!

There's no need to believe in something unseen on pure faith.

A believer will recieve those things that they need but never more than what they can handle.

The quote above, that Jesus said you pray and you recieve has more to do with spiritual than material.
