or would it prove difficult for you to do them. If yes explain and if not explain why?
THE FIVE PRECEPTS The Five Precepts are basic ethical guidelines for the followers of Buddhism. They are undertaken voluntarily, rather than as commandments from a god. Essentially, these precepts promote harmony and reduce suffering between ourselves and others. The underpinning moral code has two qualities: compassion (karuna) and loving kindness (metta), which are used as the guiding principles in life. 1. I undertake the precept to refrain from destroying living creatures. 2. I undertake the precept to refrain from taking that which is not given. 3. I undertake the precept to refrain from sexual misconduct. 4. I undertake the precept to refrain from incorrect speech. 5. I undertake the precept to refrain from intoxicatants. |

Unfortunately I eat meat. I say that this is unfortunate because I actually don't feel a need to eat meat. It's just that it's the easiest foodstuff to obtain in the marketplace. Especially in resturants and fast food places which I often use. The other thing too is that the reason we are not being overrun by undesirable predators is because they were already murdered by our forefathers. I live in a pretty woodsy area and I even do gardening here. I can't even remember the last time I saw a snake. But the reason they aren't around in abundance is because they were all killed off. I can remember that there were rattle snakes around here when I was a kid. Quite a few actually because as a child I ran into them frequently myself. The reason they are no longer around here is because people killed them (including me when I was younger). If no one every killed a rattlesnake they'd be all over the place! You'd be hard pressed to do anything without getting bit by one just about every day! Especially if you were trying to do things like gardening in the weeds! The problem with animals is that they won't hesitate to bite us! It's easy for us to get all moral about not killing them now that they've already been murdered. But we'd think quite differntly about it if we were swamped with undesirable critters all the time. 2. I undertake the precept to refrain from taking that which is not given. I would never. 3. I undertake the precept to refrain from sexual misconduct. Who decides what that entails? As long as it's consensual, responsible, and no one is breaking any commmitments then it's not misconduct as far as I'm concerned. Of course, being responsible would include being responsible for being a good parent to any offspring! So as long as it's responsible and consentual then it's not misconduct IMHO. 4. I undertake the precept to refrain from incorrect speech. What's incorrect speech? Is disagreement incorrect speech? Is it incorrect to speak out against something you see as harmful even if others view it as their sacred religion? 5. I undertake the precept to refrain from intoxicatants. I haven't done that in decades, not even midly. |

nope. I don't allow roaches in my house. If they disobey my command to leave, the wages of that sin is death. They may live outdoors but not in my house where I reign as Goddess. I tolerate a small population of spiders and I like crickets, but flies are not allowed. Yes I am prejudice against certain pests, I admit it. God did not create roaches, Satan did. I don't kill my dinner, I let other people kill my dinner. I eat meat and I thank them for their contribution to my nourishment. I'm a meatatarian, ... Its a personal choice. 2. I undertake the precept to refrain from taking that which is not given. Yes, I have no problem with that. (Edit: I have enough junk to deal with anyway, LOL) 3. I undertake the precept to refrain from sexual misconduct. No problem since I am celibate. 4. I undertake the precept to refrain from incorrect speech. I try to speak positive things because there is power in the spoken word. But I believe in freedom of speech. So the term "incorrect" would have to be more defined, or else defined by me. 5. I undertake the precept to refrain from intoxicatants. Nope, moderation in all things is what I believe, but a glass of wine is okay as long as you understand the consequences. |

I love it! The wages of sin is death. You cruel heartless unforgiving Goddess you! I'm guilty of the same divine crimes. There are species that I will tolerate in my abode, and species that I won't. And I don't even care whether they've even read my doctrine, ignorance is no excuse, they die first, and can ask questions later. I'm a meatatarian, ... Its a personal choice.
You're an outright murderer by choice. I plea unwilling accessory to the crime. I'd be a vegetarian if it was easy. Honest I would. No problem since I am celibate.
That's the easy way out. I'm celibate too, but I guarantee that it's not by choice. The first eligible floozy that shows up at my door may well cause me to become uncelibate real quick. Especially if she has long legs and a short skirt. |

Especially if she has long legs and a short skirt. Well, its not that I am trying to be celibate. The first horny good looking, chemically compatible man that kisses the back of my neck could get lucky. But alas, I live in a remote area with a very small selection, and I am very picky. JB |

The underpinning moral code has two qualities: compassion (karuna) and loving kindness (metta), which are used as the guiding principles in life. First off, I think the implication that compassion and loving kindness cannot exist in the face of any of these is, in itself, not very compassionate. 1. I undertake the precept to refrain from destroying living creatures. If killing animals for food is considered "destroying living creatures, then no. 2. I undertake the precept to refrain from taking that which is not given.
Yes. 3. I undertake the precept to refrain from sexual misconduct.
I would be more inclined to say yes if the word "sexual" were removed. This whole set of precepts is about "conduct". All of the other four are very specific. The fact that this adresses a broad area of conduct, without defining it, leaves it open to capricious definitions. So until such definition is forthcoming, I have to say - no comment. 4. I undertake the precept to refrain from incorrect speech.
If by "incorrect speech" you mean either "lying" or "libel/slander" or "bad grammar", then yes. If you mean "obscentities", then again, for the same reasons as stated above, I'd have to say - no comment. 5. I undertake the precept to refrain from intoxicatants. Nope.

Sexual misconduct... to cause harm to self or another... to take that which is not offered freely.
Rape, abuse, preying on the vulnerable.. ie: developmentally impaired, children, elderly... To use a sexual act to disempower or to use for control or manipulation over another. Sexual misconduct... in it's true sense... also including casual, extra marital, and or self gratifying sex... (where another person is involved)... any act that is not a genuine giving, and honouring act within sex... (in it's truest sense).. is what that is about. |

That is still a tinybit fuzzy in a couple places, (i.e. you appear to have specifically excluded masturbation from the "self gratifying" heading, but I don't see masturbation as "a genuine giving, honoring act" either) but I won't nitpick as I agree with what I believe the intent to be. So with that, I would answer yes. |

also including casual, extra marital, and or self gratifying sex... (where another person is involved)... By casual do you mean 'irresponsible' or 'loose'? I'm not sure what 'casual' means. It could just mean informal. How formal does sex need to be? Also, what's wrong with self gratifying sex if both individuals involved are seeking self-gratification. Like JB I'm celibate, but if a floozy should happen to break down at the end of my driveway I'd like to know just intimate I can get with her before you guys are going to think poorly of me? Actually, I'm horny enough right now that I don't give a damn what you people think tonight. But if it should happen say tomorrow at noon, when I'm thinking more clearly, What should I do? It rare, but once in a while a floozy does have car trouble in the sticks. Dag blasted cars are just too damn dependable anymore. |

Oh just put on a black tie... that should satisfy the requirements. .. |
