By casual do you mean 'irresponsible' or 'loose'?

I'm not sure what 'casual' means. It could just mean informal. laugh

Causual sex: No black tie required, first names only. smokin

Yeah I don't like the looks of that "sexual misconduct" one. Its far too ambiguous. What is considered "sexual misconduct" exactly as it relates to Buddhism? I mean ya know, Im a grown woman and I like my latex and boots on occasion. Does that qualify?? I don't want to get involved with any impossible demands or adherence to oppressive intolerance. The rest seem negotiable to me however. happy

I really like Jess642's definition (at least as it relates to acts involving more than one person): "any act that is not a genuine giving, and honouring act within sex". (And yes, the very act of "having an orgasm" could hardly fit within that defintion, but hey, nobody's perfect.)

So maybe the definition should be something like "anything that is not mutually and equally desired by everyone involved". That wouldn't exclude masturbation or even the "headache reliever". But then, it wouldn't exclude prostitution either.

1. I undertake the precept to refrain from destroying living creatures.

2. I undertake the precept to refrain from taking that which is not given.

3. I undertake the precept to refrain from sexual misconduct.

4. I undertake the precept to refrain from incorrect speech.

5. I undertake the precept to refrain from intoxicatants.

1) Nope - love those bacon sandwiches, hate those mosquitos
2) Can just about do this one - mostly - there are occasions when things present themselves and do beg to be taken
3) Cant do this one at all ... Im a ScubaGod fer cryin' out loud ... there has to be a little prayer at the altar of my lurrrve
4) Not a f'kn chance!!
5) I refer to point 3 - although the only intoxicant I partake in now is caffiene and the occassional crate of decent wine.

So, Buddhism's not for me either. ohwell

[crosses Buddhism off the list]

or would it prove difficult for you to do them. If yes explain and if not explain why?

not difficult ...more like impossible

THE FIVE PRECEPTS

The Five Precepts are basic ethical guidelines for the followers of Buddhism. They are undertaken voluntarily, rather than as commandments from a god.

isn't that what all religions do ..if the guildlines are not accepted voluntarily then how could they be "true followers" which means that the Five Precepts sure sound like commandments

Essentially, these precepts promote harmony and reduce suffering between ourselves
and others. The underpinning moral code has two qualities: compassion (karuna)
and loving kindness (metta), which are used as the guiding principles in life.

doesn't all religions make those same claim ..but anyway let's take a look at these "Five Precepts"

1. I undertake the precept to refrain from destroying living creatures.

which means ... never walk or move or you may accidently destroy whole microscopic universes

2. I undertake the precept to refrain from taking that which is not given.

which means ... always ask the animals and/or vegetables to give their lives before you eat them

3. I undertake the precept to refrain from sexual misconduct.

which means ..since sex is misconduct engage only in celibacy

4. I undertake the precept to refrain from incorrect speech.

which means ..no slang cursing or speaking in a foreign langauge

5. I undertake the precept to refrain from intoxicatants.

which means ..no prescription drugs or under the counter cold medications etc.

sure sounds like commandments
