When did being 20, 30, or even 40 lbs overweight come to be considered the new "average"?

Kudo's to everyone who are honest about their body type in their profiles.......

(And yes, I did list myself as accordingly)

If it's not average, then what should it be listed under? I'm only asking, because I have no clue what "average" should be.

What difference does it make as long as they post a current photo and you can make up your mind?

Average would be the combined weight of all of a group divided by the number of individuals in the group. The average isn't the ideal.

Stats are from the CDC in 2004

In people older than 20, both men and women were a little more than 24 pounds heavier than in the early 1960s. By 2002, average weight for men was almost 191 pounds; for women, average weight was 163 pounds.

The AVERAGE size of a woman in the US is a size 14/16, I'm a 9 does that make me below average?

Uhm, no, I could lose 20lbs, but I carry it well. So I'm average I think.

Well, I am only asking because on another site I selected average and was told a few times that I was not. Guess some people's ideal of average is different than others. Thanks for the response.

David I think most people confuse average with what they see as "normal". I think most women lie about thier weight, & people have no idea what "average" is. The average American is overweight.

Like I said, it was because I was told I was not average on another site and was just wondering the opinion of people here. Seems to be a much more friendly bunch on this site...

I don't even think it should say that much. Slim, average, and extra large would be good enough for me. Most people nowadays have a little meat on their bones. I mean seriously, what's wrong with a guy having a bit of a gut, or a woman having a little extra cushion? At my age it's pretty much the norm. I just think as long as you are sensible about your eating habits and do a little something to get some form of exercise, then you're okay in my book. JMHOflowerforyou
