Dude! That is the way I totally grew up! I used to take g-friends on trips like that.... just for the reasons that you put down.

i love road trips, though one might need to take out a mortgage just to go on one at this point.
i occasionally take my grandmother on trips. she's in her late 80s, and loves just driving down country roads. my grandfather used to take her for rides, but he passed in '73.
