Topic: I need to vent

I told a "friend" last night about my cat who was just diagnosed with cancer and he was really sweet about it. Just now, however, he felt it necessary to email me a link relating pet cancer to second hand smoke, like I was somehow to blame for my cat's condition. I think that was a very mean and unnecessary thing for him to do. You are lucky your cat got it and you did not . Time to stop lad !. . The point of my post was not to argue the deleterious effects of smoking. It was my so-called friend's insensitivity.

That's what I don't understand. Why would he think that would be helpful? So I'd know the reason my cat had cancer? And I'd feel better knowing the reason was ME????? Thank you for your concern.

Thank you for your concern. personally if someone one did that to me, i wouldn't consider it insensitive i'd consider it informative...and maybe reevaluate what happened and knowing why would be enough for me. But that's just me

Oh no no no, you will most likely never know what truly caused Hobbes cancer, anymore than drs can truly tell what caused any type of cancer in human patients. There are only educated guesses and patterns or else there would be a cure. If second hand smoke causes cancer, why have none of my 20 animals who have passed from 'old age' ever had cancer? You'll just drive yourself nuts with that kind of thinking! Hopefully your friend was only trying to be helpful in their own misguided way and certainly didn't mean to hurt you. A lot of people don't know what to say in times like this, when they are only trying to be helpful.
