Two days past eighteen He was waiting for the bus in his army green Sat down in a booth in a cafe there Gave his order to a girl with a bow in her hair He's a little shy so she gives him a smile And he said would you mind sittin' down for a while And talking to me, I'm feeling a little low She said I'm off in an hour and I know where we can go So they went down and they sat on the pier He said I bet you got a boyfriend but I don't care I got no one to send a letter to Would you mind if I sent one back here to you Chorus: I cried Never gonna hold the hand of another guy Too young for him they told her Waitin' for the love of a travelin' soldier Over love will never end Waitin' for the soldier to come back again Never more to be alone when the letter said A soldier's coming home So the letters came from an army camp In California then Vietnam And he told her of his heart It might be love and all of the things he was so scared of He said when it's getting kinda rough over here I think of that day sittin' down at the pier And I close my eyes and see your pretty smile Don't worry but I won't be able to write for awhile [Chorus] One Friday night at a football game The Lord's Prayer said and the Anthem sang A man said folks would you bow your heads For a list of local Vietnam dead Crying all alone under the stands Was a piccolo player in the marching band And one name read and nobody really cared But a pretty little girl with a bow in her hair [Chorus] [Chorus] ![]() ![]() Oh in case you dont think this affects me.......think again......I was a peace activist in california along wiht owning and manning a chat room for anti war on winmx........you have no idea what Ive heard ... |

<-----waiting for the smart people to show up for this/////////// ![]() ![]() Smart people can never portray nor win a debate against the caring of a woman gypsy, whether she be a mother or a lover. That's why Bush tried to silence the Dixie Chicks in the early days of the war! ![]() |

I served my time as a 82nd airborne paratrooper. 4 years of it. For the most part it was all peace time unless you count Granada and that was just a pic nic. My son has served in Iraq and Afghanistan 18 months each. My father is retired Vientnam vet and I have 4 step brothers who have all served in the military to include Airforce,Navy,Marines,Cost Guard and me in the Army. The only wish from my father to each of us was Come home safe.

Dear Mr. President
Come take a walk with me Let's pretend we're just two people and You're not better than me I'd like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep What do you feel when you look in the mirror Are you proud How do you sleep while the rest of us cry How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye How do you walk with your head held high Can you even look me in the eye And tell me why Dear Mr. President Were you a lonely boy Are you a lonely boy Are you a lonely boy How can you say No child is left behind We're not dumb and we're not blind They're all sitting in your cells While you pave the road to hell What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay I can only imagine what the first lady has to say You've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine How do you sleep while the rest of us cry How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye How do you walk with your head held high Can you even look me in the eye Let me tell you bout hard work Minimum wage with a baby on the way Let me tell you bout hard work Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away Let me tell you bout hard work Building a bed out of a cardboard box Let me tell you bout hard work Hard work Hard work You don't know nothing bout hard work Hard work Hard work Oh How do you sleep at night How do you walk with your head held high Dear Mr. President You'd never take a walk with me Would You? ![]() |
