I think the most insidious sort of a lie is the intimation sort, you know where you indicate you've done something and the other person trusts you implicitly. Later, when you come to find out the concrete bare bones truth, you feel decieved because you were deliberaetly misled, and feel guilt as a result of being so blind. Sort of like, well, if I'd asked better questions I'd know and therefore you feel as though you take a part in it.
An out and out lie is easier in a way, as you can get angry and a bit indignant, and the lines to break are so much cleaner. Whew.... I hope that made sense.
