Topic: incredible back pain... | |

wowie my back is having spasms, I feel like I'm in labor. omg this hurts bad. I hope the heating pad I have on it helps... anyone know if it's a bad thing to put heat on it? lol

Icy-Hot.
Don't think there is anything wrong with applying heat to an area in pain...unless it's an open sore that would be all kinds of bad... |

I came close to severing my spine in a bike wreck, and was told to use heat to bring down the pain, as well as take Advil (ibuprofen) because it was an anti inflamitory. Another thing I may suggest, add two cups of epsom salt to a hot bath, and lay in it, you will feel like a million bucks.

Thanks but I don't think I'd be able to get into the tub right now without seriously injuring myself. It hurts REALLY badly whenever I move. All I did was reach behind me to get my biology book and wham, back spasms on my right side.

Sometimes ice will break a spasm in a muscle. 20 mins. on 20 mins. off. You may want to bundle up - brrrrrrr. Hope you feel better soon!

Heat is good for back spasms. Some docs recommend alternating heat and ice, but I always just use the heating pad.
Ibuprofen is good, as someone above said, is an antiinflammatory. You can get muscle relaxants from your doctor in the morning. Soaking in a hot tub would be good also. I like to stand in the shower and let the hot water run down my neck and back (usually for headaches) but would help your back too I am sure. The Icy/Hot rub could work, I don't use it but other people like it. Personal choice if you want. Good luck, hope it feels better soon. |

How about try a Chiropractor. I am such but in Dallas and can't help you. Can't give you advice either without seeing you. Find somebody local. You likely have a bone out of place causing the problem. When the pain goes away you may not be fixed. Find a professional locally. Good luck!

I'm kind of scared of my chiropractor. Sometimes when I'm really hurting he makes it much worse. That's what started this whole mess, my hip goes out and then everything up the line follows suit. I waited too long to go since I'm used to pain at this point, but this I can't bear.

Agrees with the doc, thought I am not a doctor myself, I must agree, I spent 8 weeks in the hospital after the bike wreck, and then returned since I didn't listen when he told me not to do someithing.

Thanks ladies/gents for your advice pain sure does suck!
Sucks about your back, I've had a few injuries myself.. most likely not as bad though.... although you should try 18 hrs of back labor that was fun... NOT! |

Chiropractors work for some people, but I had my first run-in with one earlier this year. She made my pain hugely worse and even caused problems I didn't have before. Took me months to get the pain to calm down. They do work for some people, but I won't go again.
Also, try sleeping with a pillow under your knees, not a really big pillow, but one that will break up the stress on your lower back. Also put the pillow between your legs if you sleep on your side, this really DOES help. |

yeah mine damn near killed me with the pain when my back went out after a huge sneeze which is why I'm scared to go while I'm hurting, especially... he made it so I couldn't stand up straight for at least a day

I could hardly move without severe sharp pains. |

Unfortunately I don't know any others as cheap in cost as him, and I have no mula or insurance. Besides, I'd have to pay a larger initial fee to be a new patient somewhere else, so I'm kinda stuck for now.

have you considered looking to the state for help, some states have healthcare packages for people that cannot afford insuarnce. My G/F is paying 75 bucks here in IL for her daughter, since her company's insurance wanted like 350 for basic child care

How many adjustments have you had? The first few times it will still hurt. Did he administer low voltage shocks to the back? There is a machine they use that will tighten the muscles and relax them repeatedly. That also helps and is part of the treatment I received.
