artistic license for cooking baking you don't have that luxury. My mom would improvise so much on a recipe whe would start out with meatloaf and end up with chocolate cake. I learned how to cook from her...

Both for different dishes. If I know it fairly well; on memory...if I'm trying something new I follow the recipe.

If I know the dish well I just use my intuition, but if I have never made it I will definitely follow the recipe

Both, I look at recipes, unless I'm baking, as suggestions and I almost always feel free to "tweak" something to suit what I have in the house or to suit my own tastes.

If its a new recipe i will pretty much following it, but other times I will just decide to make something and I do it with out finding a recipe. Once I make it once, I may glance at the recipe, but I usually do my own thing.

Both....follow a recipe generally if trying it for the first time. Things I've made forever, I don't. My mom was an Awesome cook. Learned it all from her.

i follow my intuition.......if i haven't made it before or it's been so long since i HAVE made it, i'll ask my dad, he's mainly the one that taught me (well, mom did teach me how to fry chicken and bake homemade buttermilk biscuits)
