Of all the systems of morality, ancient or modern, which have come under my observation, none appear to me so pure as that of Jesus. He who follows this steadily need not, I think, be uneasy, although he cannot comprehend the subtleties and mysteries erected on his doctrines by those who, calling themselves his special followers and favorites, would make him come into the world to lay snares for all understandings but theirs. These metaphysical heads, usurping the judgment seat of God, denounce as his enemies all who cannot perceive the Geometrical logic of Euclid in the demonstrations of St Athanasius, that three are one, and one is three; and yet that the one is not three nor the three one.
-- Thomas Jefferson

yup.

and he was speaking in the context of 'churchianity' as expressed by the advantaged and priveleged of England in his day, which was also a major thorn in the side of the true church.

Even though the Church of England claimed Christ as its head, it also was protestant of the Vatican and it's brand of 'churchianity'. The abuse of power is found in the licentiousness of advantage and privelege in institutional offiations, not in the tenants of Christianity.

Idolatry and error are what they are and this country was genesised to stand against such ills and in the course of time has fallen prey to the same licentiousness that this country sought to cleanse itself of.

That was the intent of the separation of church and state.

The context is important to recognize in its historic perspective which is incumbent upon the remarks made by Jefferson at the time.

Nobody has lied about Christianity or Jesus' role in human history, except maybe you. You are simply ignorant of the truth or a liar yourself.

The OP of this thread is an outfight lie. It is not true that “One Solitary Life” had a greater affect on humanity than entire armies, kings, parliaments etc, all put together.

That is a lie my friend. And if you are blinded to the that fact that’s your problem. No need to call me a liar.

Well I surely didn't call you a liar, I said that if anyone was lying it was you. You could just be delusional or a complete fool.

Jesus was a member of an obscure faith that was practiced in one tiny place in the world. Get that through your thick head. Jesus didn't have a powerful religion that pushed him to fame. Jesus had a message that was unique and powerful. You believe that repetition somehow brings legitimacy to your biased statements. No matter how many times you repeat your lies they will be lies. Judaism was a religion of slaves, which quickly became the largest religion in the world.

flowerforyou It is certainly true that Jesus was responsible for making monotheism a worldwide phenomenon.flowerforyou Nobody else before him was able to this with much success.flowerforyou His brutal death was actually part of his plan all along and it was wildly successful.flowerforyou

Well he certainly provoked it, there can be no doubt about that. He could have turned the other cheek and saved himself. Or he could have restrained himself from becoming violent in the first place.

Too bad he didn't practice what he preached. flowerforyou

flowerforyou The followers of Jesus followed after his example.flowerforyou The unique way they promoted their ideas completly amazed the pagans of Rome (and elsewhere).flowerforyou Even in times of great persecution the early Christians were still able to thrive and grow.flowerforyou Jesus and his followers actually found a way to incorporate the persecution into their belief system.flowerforyou Therefore, Christianity actually thrives in times of persecution.flowerforyou It was probably one of the greatest plans in human history.flowerforyou

Everything is simply a matter of opinion.
Propaganda is propaganda and it shapes our opinions.

It's all a matter of perspective and personal belief.
Truth is information and all information contradicts itself.

The OP article is a spin on someone's perspective, a bit of propaganda, (historically inaccurate as it might be.)

At the time of Christ, his small group of followers did not make a big impact on the world.

There have been other stories if crucified saviors throughout time who may also have been Christ Michael son of the Creator Father ~ or the Messiah who died for all of mankind

~~given my theory of reincarnation and the non-existence of time.~~ bigsmile He could have been all of those people doing simultaneous incarnations.

He may have been all of those people, or none of those people. We cannot know these things.

But for the story of Jesus, it was the Roman Catholic Church that promoted it. If it had not been for that, he would have gone the way of the 17 other sons of God who died for the sins of man. These saviors just didn't have a good enough publicity agent. bigsmile

I am still waiting.

Please show me where I bashed your beliefs.

Why so silent?

Because you can't and you know it, fair Rapunzel.

I have no problems with your beliefs.

As I told Star, I know religion brings comfort to people and I respect that.

What I don't like is being told that my right to post or not post hinges on whether or not I agree with you.

It doesn't. You need to get used to that.

May I make a point here..... ( it is actually what true Christianity means,I think) Jesus in his wisdom did not chastise anyone whether they accepted him or not. If we as Christians are to follow in his footsteps, should we not be forgiving of others, whether they are believers or not? Didn't Christ accept a prostitute into his fold? The door is wide open to anyone who so desires to accept the way of Christianity to do so.Christ showed that there was freedom of speech and choice more than 3 thousand years ago, that teaching ( albeit loosely) is still practised today "Truth, freedom and justice, and the rights to freedom of speech). To be true to the words of the bible, should we not be forgiving of each other, turning the other cheek, kind word turning away wrath, etc, etc.Where would any Christian be if our maker adopted an "Unforgiving" principle? It ok to agree to disagree sure ( it is what great debates are made of) but in so doing, shouldn't people refrain from name calling and bashing each other?...................JMHO

The historical Jesus? How does that differ from the actual Jesus?
How do you know that History is not a lie?

The truth may be completely different from what is written, in fact there are scriptures that contradict the events of that time.
