Topic: what's wrong with a prenup?

Marriage is a contract with some business like aspects. If not then why does it change your tax status? Why do you have to even worry about what belongs to whom? Because when you marry you are legally combining your finances. I believe if you chose to marry a prenupt is showing you are not ready & willing to do this, so why get married? I certainly understand the fear of losing what you have worked so hard for (think about my screen name) I didn't have help getting what little I have, & I intend it all to go to ny daughter. Therefore I will not enter into another marriage contract.

I'm not against prenups in general.. I'm just against them personally. Should I decide to ask someone to join me in union... and feel a need to protect myself from them... Then I have problems that a prenup will not protect me or my marriage from.

Please don't shoot, but I think prenups should be mandatory. Kidding ...but I do think they're a good idea. Ideally, it would never surface again anyway. Since I don't intend on ever being divorced...I'll probably never be married, so it really doesn't matter anyway. They should be mandatory. Weddings are all fun & romance, I don't think most people think about what they are doing finacially. When you apply for a marriage license you should recieve full diclosure of your fiancee's medical, financial,& legal situation. You should also recieve a class in your responsabilities & rights as a spouse & parent. This dosn't happen until you file for a divorce. It's crazy.

Ok I guess my 2 posts were long winded & confusing. Recap: I'ts stupid to get married, but if you must, know what you are getting into, & realize the risks you are taking.

they shouldn't have to be legal, the marriage laws should already take this into consideration. There should be no need for them. Common sense says what was yours before stays yours

I'd take that as as sign from God that I am somehow bound for a greater purpose or something... and spend all my time in some war torn province in South Africa. On a serious note... what is sad is that domestic relations/family court only exists because people cannot do it "on their own". Each state sets it up differently, and the courts do expect you to work it out. If not.... then you get reamed. This is because the judges are angry you did not work it out amicably, and as per the guidelines of your state. That should tell us all something.

I'm not for or against, I really don't care. I think in some cases it's needed, and in some it's not. HOWEVER, how about you know the person you marry, BEFORE you marry them? I dated my ex for 4 years...TO BE SURE he wasn't a scum bag...he's not, it didn't work out, and we are apart, but I knew 1...He would never cheat. 2.... He would never leave me with nothing. 3...He would always work things out with me, even if it ended which it did, and although we bicker and fight at times, we always come to an understanding in the end. WHERE WE BOTH COMPROMISE. Unless you have kids from a previous marriage, or you are worth millions and you marry a trailer park trash..... WHY DO YOU NEED ONE???

You never know another person in this lifetime, I don;t care how you try to break that down. When the chips hit the table people often change their behavior drastically when they think they can hurt you, or profit from it. To some people 100k is 5 million dollars

Hands down... That's the only way they got to my inner circle.

To some people 100k is 5 million dollars I worked hard to get my trailer & my last boyfriend wanted to get married & move in so he could sit on his @ass playing games while I worked & took care of his kids! My trailer is better than what he has!(room at Mom's he shares with 2 sons) News flash from the trailer park Users come at all economic levels!
