That is exactly my quetion too! ![]() since there are pretty much equal dem and rep there...can't be because all of Bush's people were there right? and i know ther are laws to prevent "mad, power hungry presidents" If the president veto's a bill, he has two options; 1) he must return the bill within 10 days with his reasons for veto attached! If he does this, It is sent to the origin of the bill (house/senate) where it is reviewed and voted on again. If it receives a two-thirds majority it then passes to the other, house/senate! The bill must receive a two-thirds majority vote from both the house and senate to pass. If it fails in the first vote, it is dead and goes no further. 2) Pocket-Veto; If the origin of the bill, house/or senate, is in recess at the time the bill is passed to the president, he is not required to return the bill. It is just dead, even upon return the house/senate does not get a say! It is just vetoed/kaput!! Bush has used the pocket-veto several times, but the war was not one, nor could it be. The procedures for war are quite different! To go to war all Bush had to do was doctor the evidence against Saddam (which he did) so that Congress, in their fear following 9/11, was convinced enough to authorize it! It is very clear however, that the President is required to be honest to congress, (he wasn't, he intentionally lied to congress,) because very few in Congress have the security clearance to view all the proper material available to the president. IE,, CIA documents and stuff!! His honesty is a very important factor for congress to make a fair and informed decision! By law if he isn't honest then his actions are illegal, and he may have impeachment proceedings started against him! Well, that didn't happen, for several reasons, as we are all aware of. However, it does place a twist into the legality of the Invasion of Iraq. IMO, it is illegal. IMO, it is an unthinkable thing that my country, The United States of America, would invade another country without provocation! I voted for Bush way back then, his integrity and honesty have since made me ashamed of that vote! I did not vote for him again and I am ashamed that he is the man that represents my country around the world!! ![]() ![]() |

hmmmmm now i'm really confused....i thought the congress declared war It was not war and congress did not declare war. It is a "military action" and the specifications were clear in the authorization and we have not met them. So the war "military action" is illegal even by our own authorization congress gave. |

Even Senator John McCain has objected to President Bush's use of the signing statement in this article by the Washington Post: http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/02/20/mccain_knocks_bush_signing_sta_1.html |

so congress just blindly accepted everything??? There are very few in Congress with the security clearance to view the evidence required to make an informed decision on something like the war in Iraq! They must rely on honesty when presented with the facts. In this case those facts were doctored up lies! That is illegal, unless you live in under a dictatorship! We dont!!! This is the United States of America! For us to be a Gov of the people by the people we, or at least our eleted representation (congress), must receive honest information in which to act on! |

Also, secret meetings of corporation heads and deals made by Richard Cheney. |
