I think it depends on the woman to a certain degree. If she has a history of expecting things, especially things that are unreasonable, then the additional stress of her expectations could cause a man to leave a woman before a holiday. If he has experienced with her during Christmas then here it comes again.

On the other hand, if the guy does not really care for her or if he is just simply cheap then I could see this happening. Everyone is a little different so I would have to say...it depends.
