I would like to offer this as a contribution:
"So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." Matthew 7:12 If you think of it, when everyone of us is "nailing" the code of conduct outlined by Golden Rule in our interactions, it pretty much guarantees that people are happy. To me beauty and power of that Golden Rule is that every human in their right mind understands the concept, no matter religion, culture or level of education. For us Christians I would suggest that the weight of the Word of God can be understood in through reading of John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." and John 1:14 "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth." Golden Rule in Matthew 7:12 is spoken by Jesus. Considering what is outlined in John 1:1 and John 1:14, if we don't believe that the Golden Rule and all the good fruits and gifts our behaviour compliant to it yields, is will of God for us, then what else is left of that faith of ours? So you saying there was the "word" before there was a god. What was this word and did it create the maker |

That is your opinion not everyone's. God gives us free will so if we chose to be happy we will. If we chose to be unhappy we will. He does not force his will on us. If you do not believe that is fine but do not denigrate believer's feelings just because you do not believe. I don't think he was denigrating believers nor there feelings. When anyone points out an inconvenience in the belief it's because maybe they want you to see the blind spot they saw. Having grace in the way you do it will go a long way to be heard. Back to the question of "Does God want us to be happy?" I personally don't think God cares about our happiness. All the things that Msharmony listed that will bring joy of happiness if we do them should work if you want relief from the pain of loosing a child or when doctors tell you there is nothing more to do and cancer is going to beat you. Apart from the things to do, if God really wanted you to be happy God would stop all this suffering from even bringing so much pain and misery. Let's not worry if God wants us to be happy but let's do our best to help out fellow human to achieve happiness and help to reduce the pain and suffering in the world. Let God be God to who ever wants one and respect that person even if that belief seems silly to you. |
