The fact is, Trump never had a choice. The U.S. sits at 125% debt-to-GDP. The higher the GDP ratio, the more of the country’s income goes toward servicing debt. If the United States doesn’t get this under control, even its military will be at risk. What do you mean? Never had a choice? The tariffs are completely crashing US and international markets, and if this was about the national debt, they could simply raise taxes, including on the highest incomes. Back in 1930, congress passed Smoot Hawley Tariff Act to raise revenues, and it caused widespread market turmoil, unemployment and actually lower revenues until it was reversed in 1932. It caused the "Great Depression." Higher marginal tax rates are what we had back in the 1950s and the country and markets were stronger than ever before. Of course the upper class made sure to squash that, since they were paying a top marginal tax rate of over 90%. But now Trump wants the country to "suffer for the country" regardless of how much it costs. Trump has several choices on how to handle things, but he's starting a trade war. It's like the dumbest option. But that's Trump. It’s called negotiations or negotiating , something Biden never had the brain capacity to engage in with other leaders . Instead Biden would bend over and take it you know where. Now we know why with the books coming out about his four years of dillusion and brain drsease..Trump and his supporters know this country is now on the right track to make America the top dog again.. in strength , economy , education and manufacturing. In their mind the American dream is to defraud the American taxpayer to pay for immoral and anti American ideals, their dream is to keep illegal immigrants in our country and we can pay to house them while they rape and murder our children and others. I saw that. Many people are upset that Senate Democrats helped Republicans pass their continuing resolution with all the cuts to veterans' programs. Very disappointing. Of course, Republicans should be ashamed of themselves, but we all know they have no shame. Anyway, polls are just a snapshot and we've got over 18 months to turn things around. It's not like Trump will solve any problems in that time. I'm betting Democrats take the house and Senate in '26. I’m betting they lose again because of the same BS message they been repeating the last four years . I never said the war in Ukraine is because of Trump. It started back in 2022, and was clearly because of Putin. He'd been planning for years by the time the first units invaded, squirreling away hundreds of billions of euros and dollars into banks around the world, and making plans with his generals. We are still feeling the constraints put on the US by the Biden Administration. I guess you haven’t heard about Apple investing 500 billion in manufacturing here.. several other company’s investing 60 billion each.. Trump is bring back the america everybody loved and prospered in. IRS says Trumps idea of a balanced budget could allow people that make less than $150,000.00 to pay no income tax.. that’s how much waste and fraud we could put towards helping the American people. Maybe at of the cost from the last four years are because of foolish beurocratic red tape to slowdown the free market here in the US… I think the dems idea is that we here in the good ole USA have had it so good for so long that they should bestow that greatness on some one other America.. Trump and Musk are doing what has needed to be done for many years now. Finally someone whit the backbone to do the right thing. A short term pain for a long term stability. The Democrats have been screaming for years ‘ pay your fair share. So Canada, Mexico and all the other countries that have been taking advantage of us. Those days are over. Every country needs to pay their fair share.. to think we can keep the status quo and sustain that kind of spending is imbecile.. A trade imbalance isn't taking advantage of the other country. Canada's and Mexico's populations and economies are small fractions of the US. How do you expect them to be able to buy as much as the US does? How is Mexico not paying their share when they're farming those vegetables that the US buys, for example? Trump is convincing you that a trade imbalance is so unfair and bad for us, when the US consumers get to buy stuff for less. If anything, maybe you should be more angry with big pharma for jacking up the price of your prescriptions or angry at the landowners who jack up the price of real estate, and the farm equipment manufacturers that makes it so expensive to grow crops in the US?
