They’re there to see a poem unfolding Where words haven’t arrived A small underscoring of half-slept moments Of forgetting weakness Here we are again Away from them and your hands are in my hair My face is in your chest You smell of cigarettes and solitude Your voice is close to my ear in a form I know but don’t understand This is no story you’re telling in bare-knuckled Braille It has a narrative I can’t follow back to your mouth This is the easy eye of beauty Silence of the planets and falling starlings in a cosmic tailspin of absurdity The black stones under my feet are still warm from when the sun burnt them in the middle of the day I wonder where I left my shoes (ii) Naked of meanings your face eludes me Still the words aren’t coming The patterns are there lightening then darkening The sounds amplify bird cries swell thick higher now with throats full of clouds Caught as they rise No truth we’ve been offered corresponds to this These are feats of the imagination To feathered applause and closed eyes My skin is my mind These are my dreams they bring it all closer Sink it in Crawl up under my sheets under a blanket of memory warp and weft of surfaces of things Woven threads of messages received from every cell touched, held, imagined Hold it, touch it again to remember whisper into it into the scars into the dull ache like a bridge from some place not located in my body Or write it and I’ll read it to my hands with my fingertips in a soft slow scrawl |

Barak Obama vs. Sarah Palin

Being a successful (manager) president is about leadership. Like him or not, Ronald Reagan is considered a great president by many because he inspired people (Reagan Revolution) to overachieve. JFK did the same in his short tenure, an example being his inspirational speech to land a man on the moon in a decade. FDR led a nation out of a depression and through a World War. These presidents cannot write or pass legislation; they can only provide the leadership to rally the people and influence it. To me, Barack Obama is a once in a generation inspirational leader, while John McCain is not. So, we should vote someone into office because they give us that "warm and fuzzy" feeling? He only gives me the "governments emptying my pockets" feeling Chaz, this administration is recklessly spending on a war without income (taxes) to pay for it. Is that responsible? Your pockets may be fuller now, but your children and grandchildren will pay for our irresponsibility. We've got to balance our budget AND pay down the near $10T debt. That is going to be incredibly difficult and will take inspired leadership. And increasing taxes to pay for socialized health care isn't gonna solve that problem. Having less social programs while keeping taxes the same would. I believe healthcare should be a right, not a privilege of only those who can afford it. The current system ends up costing billions more than it should because some can only access Emergency Rooms (very costly) for basic medical needs when less costly preventive measures could have avoided it. Also, the insurance industry is making billions in profits and as such are incented to deny treatment in many cases. Not to say nat'l healthcare can be everything to everyone. There are limits such as in the Nataline Sarkisyan case. That poor woman was doomed and there wasn't much sense spending more to "possibly" keep her alive for 6 more months. The Healthcare issue will be brutal and heart wrenching, but it has to be addressed. We can't afford the status quo. Have you looked at Socialized Healthcare closely? Healthcare is important, but it's not a right. This country needs to stop being the place that people come for handouts. There are rewards for good, honest hard work. |

Governor Palin has spent her time in office shaking up government in Alaska and actually achieving results — whether it’s taking on corruption, passing ethics reform or stopping wasteful spending and the ‘bridge to nowhere.’ Senator Obama has spent his time in office running for president. You know Obama voted to give money to that bridge to nowhere over Katrina victims. That bridge collapsed . What I think is funny is the fact that Obama said that McCain votes with President Bush 90% of the time. True...but most Democrats do, too. What he isn't telling people is that 90% of the legislation that goes through Congress is pointless "let's congratulate so-and-so"... |

Implausible Fiction

The sky opened today
with your exhalation. Lips against mine, filling my lungs with your unspent air. We dim-darkened together. Your dry lips, I feel the wetness behind them. We whisper like lovers- kisses, not because, no I’ve never made love to you I feared the hooks, the barbs, the lures No gills, gasping, arching. Not because I feared you’d pull me up to the surface to flap around on your deck. Kisses, not because, no, I feared I’d bring down your ship with me fathoms deep and drown us both in inky, Bedouin dreams projected on bed sheet screens. Not that any of this is real except that I feared. I see you paper cut wince. It might hurt more than this, calculating clever-less. |

Electric reality, don’t loosen your hold
A girl in chains no longer; everything I touch is gold A fire born of lightning sings a chorus of our voices melts all thoughts of consequences that will linger from our choices Fear evaporates when our bodies flame the fight Our reality turns static the first time you stay the night We anticipate the power of a thousand potent stars I taste your kiss, your world explodes, and then we’ll bear the scars Blinded by the wattage, we both wander through the storm climbing towers made of steel as risk and reason keep us warm Miracle? Mistake? A mere moment seized and sewn? Reality is shocking when the fantasy’s your own Lust can’t keep you grounded when it’s streaking ‘cross the sky Clouds of trust and timid passion light the kamikaze sky Intentions never empty with his needs to fuel my fire Good for him, the need to be, it only takes me higher Smoke coming from our skin, from our sin, the past, the rule And I, content to bow down at his feet, a willing fool. |

Since McCain's running mate is not ready for the office of Vice Pres. I think he just really hurt himself there, even though he thinks it will get him the "gals" votes. She just gave her speech, she's a real good "local" politician and great soccer mom. From what you say, it sounds to me like she has more experience than Obama! And she holds a higher office than both Obama and Biden. So that soccer mom's executive experience makes her unprepared for the office she was nominated for? |

Death of a Crush

He never knew you loved him,
and you stood there, side by side, an intense silence full of static sparks of awkward, unbalanced emotion. He never knew you wrote him to be kind and longing. In the divide between you, it is clear you wrote fiction. The voice of conscience and reason screams speak to him! Ask about his travels, his muscles, his sister. Your mouth is dry, drums pound the chambers of your heart. You do not know if he welcomes your words. Every moment, every breath, is a moment, is a breath he falls from the lofty cirrus clouds in your imagination. Then, a breeze, a gust of wind and he is gone in so many ways, the memory erased; a god proven to be a myth. |

In winter there will be
holes in the street, markers of this August heat that expands asphalt, makes room for ice. Earthworms fry on concrete. Each one that tries to cross fails gracefully. But the nights have changed. The hours after rain are tainted with it, the sense of November’s muffled influence. The grass is distracted. The maple stares out into the horizon. Living things, even as breath is stifled at noon, are lost among black branches, stone clouds, an iced moon. |
