I think we should stop this insane Arabian Expedition and teach the Russians a lesson. Russia is, after all, the reason our military was constructed the way it was over the past 60 years.

I don't think the threat of nuclear war over this is very valid. Both the United States as well as Russia are set up for MAD scenarios. Neither side is willing to throw it all away, nor will they ever.

If anything, the United States would send in ground troops. Georgia contains pipelines for U.S. oil, which gives us a large interest over there.

Regardless of the U.S. entering the scenario, nuclear war is not an option.

MAD is a thing of the past, hence the course of this thread.

Again, you're not comprehending the facts.

We do not need to launch thousands of ICBMs to eradicate Russian systems and stockpiles. Tactical nukes can now be launched on targets which are significantly smaller than the Hiroshima bomb. The nuke-for-nuke theory died with the Reagan era of nuclear weaponry.
You almost sound like you would like ww3. I have nothing against the russians and see no reasone to commit genocide. I think its pretty apparent that uber umerika is the loose cannon of the world anyhow.

You're so jaded by your hatred for America, that everything you say automatically becomes invalid by virtue of your obvious malice. While America has more than it's fair share of bad behavior to take responsibility for, you are wrong in dictating that somehow America is the "loose cannon" of the world. While we definitely now are plagued by the most liberal, left-wing foreign policy since the days of Woodrow Wilson, I think the actions of certain countries (Russia being one of them) definitely put our misadventures to shame.

I think the figure is 20 thermo nuclear bombs going off is enough to set of a nuclear winter. Not realy sure if it is 20 a few more or less but thats pretty close read it somewere. then its mass starvation, genocide oh but we would win............

You are wrong. You act as if some arbitrary number of nuclear explosions will set off nuclear winter, when in fact it is primarily dependent on mega-tonnage. What we're talking about here is tactical nuclear weapons, and barring the X555 Russian cruise missiles, we have the capabilities to completely wipe out their delivery systems. This is not speculative; it is a logistical and tactical fact.

The idea that we can take out all of Russia's Nukes in a first strike, is fantasy in itself!!

No, it is not. This nation's military was built around the theory of first strike primacy, that includes delivery vehicles and conventional weapon systems. Military analysts have calculated this over and over again. Our stockpile has grown, and while the numbers don't compare on paper, if you knew anything about nuclear warfare in the 21st century, numbers mean little.

With the Dems and pubes split evenly in the country we usually do anyway.

If the younger generation actually vote this time, as their interest indicates, I give Obama an easy victory. I will also give them the credit!!drinker

The coming generational gap is decidedly much worse than your own. Generations X and Y are for more radicalized, though they are evenly split as their predecessors. Most young Republicans are technically much more libertarian, while the young Democrats are definitely more socialist. There are still the establishment folks, just not as many.

It's a grim future for American politics.

Actually, we can win in a nuclear war, the United States achieved nuclear primacy over China and Russia in late-2005. Both their stockpiles and delivery vehicles would be destroyed during an American first strike.

War,
I think you've finally went over the edge!!!laugh laugh

In a Nuclear winter there are no winners. Just starvation and mutant ninja turtles!!!

Apparently, you don't understand the concept of nuclear primacy. There is no nuclear winter in the scenario I just outlined. Educate yourself: http://www.foreignaffairs.org/20060301faessay85204/keir-a-lieber-daryl-g-press/the-rise-of-u-s-nuclear-primacy.html

Most of you can't even come up with solid, substantive points in debate because most of it is "Republicans _____________" or "Democrats ____________"

You should all learn to grow up and realize that party affiliation does not tell us much. You should also learn that the terms liberals and conservatives are socio-political prisons.

I recently saw a survey that indicated conservatives were happier than liberals.

I think I know why.

Conservatives, like sheep enjoy being lead, they like to be told, "we have it right, it's the evil liberals that hate America and are ruining this country."

Liberals on the other hand are more likely to question authority and accept the fact that we, as a country, make mistakes.

O-k, jump on me for generalization. I can deal with it.

haha I agree this thread was made to stir the pot. I just added to it I hope. Bad me!

Actually, it has to do with the fact that conservatives deals with becoming an adult. It happens. You're liberal when you're younger (most, anyways), and then you grow up and become a conservative. That's because liberalism is for children and perverts.

How's that for a generalization?

Invest all the countries available resources into the new available technologies. An effort similar to the Space-race, and the Manhattan Project.
A Gov backed program involving our scientist, universities, and private sector corporations to develop efficient renewable clean energy, and move us away from fossil fuel technologies as fast as we can.
By combining Nuclear, solar, hydrogen fuel cell tech, etc., 10 yrs ought to do it, and the journey will create millions of good jobs right here at home, as well as restore National Pride and hope!

Subsidizing this will just bring higher costs to the consumer.

Contrary to popular belief, drilling for oil does not hurt the environment, and anyone who says so is just buying into typical mainstream scare tactics. Directional drilling methods have become so advanced that you can literally tap an entire field in some cases on just a couple of wells, miles apart. It does not take "ten years" to see that oil, we're talking a matter of months. I know this because half of my family have worked in the fields with companies such as eX Petroleum and the like.

What you all should be talking about is refining capacity. That's the bigger problem.

Obama wants to put more US military in Afghanistan where they should be.
He's also threatened Pakistan if they dont act against Al qaeda and the Taliban in their country he would.
He's never talked about just walking away from the ME.
He has said that he would set a time table for withdrawal from Iraq as they will never get their ducks in order if we continue to do everything for them.
Iraq has indicated they want us out to, so whats the problem?

He wants to get the country away from foreign oil dependency.
What's wrong with that?
He has even shown a willingness to work across party lines and give in to limited off-shore oil drilling. But, he wants guarantees for investments in alternative energy sources to go with it.
He's a realist, and understands that off-shore oil drilling is not going to provide any relief for Americans. None at all for 10 yrs and then only pennies on the gal. He also realizes that we can not keep on relying on fossil fuels because they are causing environmental problems and wont last forever.
He has a rare quality among politicians. A vision for the future!

You mean the Postal service showed a loss compared to what?
Compared to their under-funded budget?
If Bush hadnt been so busy giving oil companies and his rich friends tax breaks, and spending our childrens future on an illegal and wasteful war in Iraq maybe they would have recieved the proper funds!

Long time no see.

There should be no American troops in any foreign countries, particularly the Middle East, which is just another confirmation on here that no matter who wins this election, this insane Arabian Expedition will continue to drain us of blood and treasure.

For years people have been making money by buying and then selling realestate as fast as they could. They didnt care about anything but getting rich. They gathered in their country clubs, patting each other on their backs, bragging as to how smart they were and how stupid the people were that now you see cant afford the shady loans that put them there.
I'll guarantee you the ones in the country clubs havent lost a penny. When the economy goes to hell they are retiring fat and sassy, set for life!

Oh, BS. There is nothing wrong with people making investments, and lack of personal responsibility aside, how is a successful person RESPONSIBLE for the behaviors of a lender and borrower outside of their own assets? If you can't read the fine print taking out a loan or a mortgage, then sincerely, frack you, I'm not paying for your naive economic behavior. Not with all the risks and hard work I've done to secure MY investments, and provide for my own well being.

No war, 2.7 billion over 5 years...

What the hell is that supposed to mean? The war happened; I don't like it anymore than you do, and I've made my opinions well known on this forum about our fracked up foreign policy. It's a reality that we now need to live with, and I'm not talking blood, I'm talking treasure to. NEVER justify bad behavior with worse behavior.

300 billion is the FHA's investment. They should make a profit if it works right!

Oh I see, so forget about inflation and liquidity; as long as the FHA makes out, everything is a-okay!
