I find it curious that when people of today say they hear instructions from God we declare them insane. When people in ancient times said the same thing they were revered as prophets.

Whether one believes in the divinity of Jesus, believes he was an actual historical figure, an invented character, a metaphor for the Sun ("dying" at the winter solstice, "reborn", etc.), or, as I believe, a combo of all of the above - can we all agree that the message in the myth is good?
Man has long written moral stories and invented characters to be role models. One can learn a lot from Aesop's fables; you don't have to believe an actual tortoise and hare had a race (LOL) to extract a message from the tale. Kids today know Harry Potter is an invention but that doesn't stop him being a decent role model. |

I don't think it makes any difference really except whether your family has a place to visit which is sometimes nice. There is no real difference between matter and energy according to relativity. ...but I don't think you grasped the point of this topic. Or maybe he's springboarding off in his own direction. We do that a lot on these boards, it makes it more interesting. Apologies for that. Late Friday nights are perhaps not the best time for me to be posting ![]() |

One hopes we get to the point of putting artificial cities in the craters of Vesta... Gotta put about 4 billion people somewhere. time for the human race to expand. Vesta would be a good place to start. ^this ![]() |

Would you say that being cremated is a more or less efficent (I mean, quicker or slower) process of matter to energy conversion? Compared to what? Being composted? And if you just mean quicker vs slower, cremation converts the chemical potential energy of the body into other forms of energy a lot quicker than rotting and being eaten by bugs, fungus, bacteria does. There are dozens and dozens of other ways (at least) of framing the 'efficiency' question, so I wouldn't really say that its more efficient, in general; but I would agree that its quicker. I get that. I was refering to Theoretically, there is a lot more (non-chemical) energy in the ash which could be further liberated, but since most of our plants are not biological nuclear reactors, that energy will remained unused for a long, long time.

There is definitely some confusion here because Taoism or Daoism has no deity, so no creator to be worshiped, glorified, or feared and no prayer directed toward such a concept.
Thank you Redykeulous. Pantheism also has no individual deity or creator to be worshiped. You just have to worship life itself, and each other. If the love some people claim to have for God was directed towards each other what a wonderful world this would be. ![]() Indeed. How about 'peace be upon us' for a change? |

When a body is cremated, most of the energy contained in the body in the form of chemical bonds is released. It's not longer a source of energy for the metabolic processes of other flora and fauna, but it is a source of raw material (which is rearranged, for example by plants using the energy from the sun). Theoretically, there is a lot more (non-chemical) energy in the ash which could be further liberated, but since most of our plants are not biological nuclear reactors, that energy will remained unused for a long, long time. Interesting, thank you ![]() Would you say that being cremated is a more or less efficent (I mean, quicker or slower) process of matter to energy conversion? |

I think there is confusion around the concept attributed to the word 'energy'. Can you contrast different kinds of energy and then explain what kind of energy you expect will be returned to where, when a human dies? Good question! Firstly let me confess, I am merely a student and do not claim to fully understand the laws of conservation yet, but as I understand it: energy cannot be created or destroyed - the total energy of the universe is constant, mass=energy, etc. So, the mass that is my [dead] body has a definite amount of potential energy stored within it. If it is buried in the Earth, eventually 'worms' (lol) will consume my mass, converting it into the energy they need to survive, and then they themselves will die (rinse and repeat), be consumed by another lifeform, passing on the energy they extracted from my mass to another, and so on. 'Worms' eat me, other animals eat the worms, other humans eat those animals. Energy gets passed on, life continues. |

Here’s the thing, S1owhand, how can you possibly know what the principles of every religious view are and how can you possibly know that they cannot change? If god gave directions even once to any man in history, what would stop it from happening again? The fact that there is no consensus of what it is that any god actually said AND meant to any human means that there is no possible way to know what principles of belief that or any god would expect humans to follow. thank you Red, you have brought forward probably the biggest issue I have with traditional religious beliefs [in bold]. (may be off topic but I'd like to respond to this). How can any rational person accept that the Almighty Creator once decided it wise to reveal itself to Man (primitive Man, at that)? Why would it do this? Why not reveal itself every few generations to make sure that we truly have the right ideas at heart? Why not reveal itself to every individual? Surely this would've prevented millennia of disagrement, persecution, war and murder. Apologies if I've misconstrued your meaning. ![]() |

I feel personally that Love and God originates from my inner being and channels into this world. Its like God/Love bursts through a black hole and manifests in this universe warping space and bringing with it energy that changes into matter. From there, stars are born, galaxies are formed, planets are manifested from energy turning into matter. Then life emerges through the same forces of energy that I call the creative force which is love. Each element, each atom, each particle is an expression of this energy. I am a manifestation of star dust as we all are. This is energy, and I see this energy as love which to me is God. All is God, including me. Jeannie, you continue to make beautiful, mind-blowing posts ![]() ![]() |

Morning you just need to read more about Pantheism and you will find that it is the belief that God is one with the Universe, that God is everywhere and unknowable in entirety, that God comprises all knowledge and the force behind how the Universe - how God - came into being, and is only One. Preface: s1ow, my personal 'beliefs' [thoughts] may or may not conform to the wiki definition of pantheism, I don't know. I can only speak for myself and would not impose my thoughts onto another but... I disagree that God is unknowable. May I share an analogy? Imagine yourself inside a sphere. It is covered with a black crust. Every time you make a discovery about how things work (say, how to create fire, or you discover radio waves, how to harness electricity, etc.) you scratch away a piece of this crust and reveal the light beyond. Man, from learning how to make stone tools, to formulating theories of motion, to launching sattelites (and beyond) is constantly scraping away at this crust. The goal is to scrape away all the crust [ignorance] and reveal and understand the true nature of all things. Only then may we say we know the mind of 'God'. |
