![]() ![]() Let's not go there Mirror, bad owners make bad pit bulls! They can be the sweetest dogs if raised right. ![]() ![]() My biggest bit... is HAVE LIABILITY INS...If ya dont ya shouldnt own it!! I agree...you hear it all the time... "The dog/snake/bear/lion was NEVER aggressive before...I just don't understand why it attacked and KILLED A CHILD...." Oh....ok then. However...all the liability insurance in the world is not going to insure against stupid people, like this person was.. "Darnell, 32, told authorities he last checked on the snake about 12:30 a.m. It had escaped its terrarium. He put the snake in a bag and put it back inside the glass case. Then he put a quilt over the terrarium and tied something around the quilt. State law says pythons are supposed to be kept under lock. Early in the morning, the snake escaped again." What good is liability insurance going to do here? the child it dead...and the snake owner is directly responsible for this death IMO... I have a pool so I carry $1,000,000 liability...WHY because I know I cant be in control of that pool 24/7. I have a 6" privacy fence but know some kid wanting to take a dip will if he gets a chance...Its called being responsible....I have neighbors with a pit that gets out...They rent and have nothing(They told me they have nothing)...I own my house and cant own one...Cant get homeowners in florida if you own a pit, rott,or German Shepard unless you fork out big $$$$$$$$ TRY 4 TIMES what I pay even carrying the $1,000,000 I carry because of the pool!!!!! oh, I see what you are saying now...I get it and YES...it is the responsible thing to do. That child was not his...it was his girlfriends. It is a sad day that you have taken ALL the precautions...crossed all the t's and dotted all the i's...and yet, people can still come after you. I would see that as their liability and their responsibility if they sneak into your pool and drown or get hurt. You have done everything that you are supposed to do... My thing is that neither the mother or the boyfriend were being responsible for the 2 year old child OR the snake that killed her.. and in that instance, even IF he had insurance it would not make the life of the little girl come back... it is a major difference from what you do...you both A.) act responsibly and B.) carry insurance... Like I said, I think that the mother and the boyfriend are responsible for the death of the child period. |

Basically, it is nothing but an information gathering site. I mean the people running the site doing the gathering. Then they sell the information... How do you think they pay to run the site!! Web hosting isn't free. Nope, it sure is not!! and to think of the bandwidth they must be pulling down!! WooZerS!!! anywho...they also have lots of advertisers and crap running around there so I have my firewalls and my bot spies..and my virus hunter controller...and all that stuff.. I always clean every thing out after I visit the site...and to tell you the truth...I get more junk mail from yahoo than anywhere...besides, I also use gmail and I just am not bothered by any junk mail for the most part... but I am sure they do make a buck or two selling emails...I tend to think they make more off of the advertisers...there are millions of people on that site.. to each their own though.... |

I love FB. I only have people on my list that are friends and family. My personal information is on there, so I do not accept people that I do not personally know. I have all my filters set to just my friends only, and some of them even more restrictive. I do not play any of the games on there so I do not need to collect friends to build any city, farm, family or stuff like that...some people do and that is their choice... I love the fact that I can up load pics and all of the people that I want to see them can!! easy... it is like one stop for me...easy!! I love it!! |

'Groundless' Thoughts?
|

If I said that I was being watched by an invisible flying monkey who throws invisible intangible poo at me all day that only I can smell. That would be groundless. This is very interesting to me...as I worked with people who were deemed schizophrenic. I had an ability to "listen" to their stories...to hear them, to hear their story...there WAS a basis to their thoughts...no matter how bizarre they may sound to others.. so, while you say that this "delusion", which as you know is a belief that is sustained over time, is in fact, based on some experience, some perception, some belief... that thought to that person is grounded in their reality or their perception... at least IMO... |

I found this to be interesting... http://www.rosmini-in-english.org/ArchiveVolumes/OrigThought/Part1/OT_Part1Conts.htm this is from Chapter One... It Is A Fact That We Think Of Being In General 398. I begin with a simple, very obvious fact, the study of which forms the whole theory of this book: we think of being in a general way. This fact, no matter how we explain it, cannot be called into doubt. To think being in a general way simply means thinking of the quality common to all things, while ignoring all other qualities, generic, specific or proper. I have the power to fix my attention on one element of a thing rather than on another, and in concentrating exclusively on being, the quality common to all things, I am said to be thinking being in general. To deny that we can direct our attention to being as common to all things, while ignoring or rather abstracting from all their other qualities, contradicts what is attested by ordinary observation of our own actions; it would mean contradicting common sense and violating ordinary speech. When I say: reason is proper to human beings, who have feeling in common with animals and vegetable life in common with plants, I am thinking this common being independently of everything else. If human beings did not have the ability to think being separately from everything else, this statement would be impossible. This fact is so obvious that to mention it would be sufficient, if it were not for the doubt prevalent in modern thinking. Yet it is the foundation of the entire theory of the origin of ideas. 399. To think being in a general way means that we have the idea of being in general, or at least presupposes that we have it; without the idea of being, we cannot think being. Our task, then, is to identify the origin of this idea. But if we are to discover its source, we must first examine its nature and character. |

"What are they, and who has them?" I wonder if thought can exist without origin...and the very origin would be a "ground" for that thought...so, based on my opinion, there are no groundless thoughts... I think that the original thought about this was asking more about the "factual" basis, or "evidence based" discussion of thought... Do we or must we have "evidence" for our thoughts? No, not always...we may not have a full realization of the origin of our thoughts or the full dynamic process of how we arrived at a thought.. My thinking>> thought is based on perception, perception is based on experience, experience is based on the environment, environment is based on experience, experience is based on perception, perception is based on thought... there is the POSSIBILITY of a combination of thought, perception, experience, environment...or a combination of two, or three... I know that there are things that are done without thought...like breathing, your heart beating, blinking...YET, even then our "brain" is "thinking" about them, or not... is this thought? and if so, would they be "groundless" thoughts? so, IMO, there are no thoughts that are groundless...only things that I am not able to yet understand... "first seek to understand, and then be understood" |

more on the story of the 2 year old that was killed by a snake... there might be charges of neglect filed... http://www.tampabay.com/news/publicsafety/article1015026.ece Shaiunna Hare was strangled Wednesday by the family's pet albino Burmese python, according to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office. Deputies say the nearly 8-foot, 6-inch yellow-tinged snake escaped its enclosure at night, slithered into her room, wrapped itself around her as she lay in her crib, repeatedly bit her and squeezed her to death. The mother's boyfriend, Charles Darnell, awoke to find his pet missing. He found it in Shaiunna's room, on top of her. Darnell, who is not her father, freed the girl by stabbing the snake with a 6-inch knife and a meat cleaver. Injured, the snake released the child and slithered away inside the home. In a call to 911 at about 9:40 a.m., an unidentified man sobs as he tells the operator what happened. "The baby's dead," he says. "Our stupid snake got out in the middle of the night and strangled the baby." ********** Darnell, 32, told authorities he last checked on the snake about 12:30 a.m. It had escaped its terrarium. He put the snake in a bag and put it back inside the glass case. Then he put a quilt over the terrarium and tied something around the quilt. State law says pythons are supposed to be kept under lock. Early in the morning, the snake escaped again. Sumter deputies and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers had to get a warrant to enter the home to find the two snakes Darnell kept in the house. The other was a 6-foot red-tail boa constrictor named Dixie. Armed with the warrant, nine men entered the home at 4:45 p.m. Five minutes later, two men carried out the unnamed python. TV crews from Tampa to Orlando drove to this rural community an hour north of the Magic Kingdom to watch. The young snake was nearly 9 feet long and weighed 15 to 20 pounds, officials say. It was injured. Bloody puncture wounds were visible about a foot from its nose. It was taken to a local veterinarian to see whether it needed to be euthanized. Investigators also carried out a crib, a bloodied mattress, the knives used to attack the snake and a small amount of marijuana. Darnell and the girl's mother, 19-year-old Jaren Hare, signed over custody of the snake to the state. Dead or alive, it will be kept as evidence in the investigation. ******* Darnell and Hare were questioned by investigators but not taken into custody. They may be re-interviewed after today's scheduled autopsy on Shaiunna. "We still have to investigate this case and at some point there could be some negligence charges," sheriff's Lt. Bobby Caruthers said. Department of Children and Families spokeswoman Carrie Hoeppner said the agency has investigated several complaints involving this family during the past year. A "couple" of incidents were verified, she said, but she did not disclose details. Caruthers confirmed that a month ago that deputies responded to a "DCF-type call" at the home. Child abuse and neglect investigators will look into Shaiunna's death, Hoeppner said. Darnell was arrested in May on numerous drug charges. A charge of larceny was dropped against Hare when she was 16. I wonder if they will be charged with the death of the child? sadly, there is no law against stupidity...and it is obvious that BOTH "adults" were clearly beyond stupid, IMO. |

For the most part, at 12 years old, I was not thinking about sexual activity at all...I was probably still reading Teen Beat and looking at my posters of Davy Jones or Bobby Sherman... I know that children are "sexualized" much earlier now than previous, and many 12-14 year old girls know quite a bit about sexual activity...but the maturity to have "consensual" sex? at 12? not hardly... |

for various reasons, I had Gregory cremated. We really did not want to be "tied" to a graveyard somewhere. I could not even imagine what I would do if someone did this to my family member... I cannot even imagine how anyone came up with this idea... was everyone just thinking how to make some money and one of them said..."Hey, I know...let's dig up graves and throw the bodies in the back area and re sell the grave site..." "sure thing Vern...no problem, count me in!!" It just is beyond my understanding how some people can think up this ****!! |

I just watched the follow up to this on the news. It sure is a mess and many bodies are not able to be ID'd without expensive testing to determine who's bodies have been dug up and thrown into a "garbage" area.. this is just so sad for the families... |

I think its clear most people do not understand philosophy. I'll be the first to admit, I failed it in college ![]() ![]() However at the end of the day when a realist and a idealist get into a philosophical debate I never hold my breath on consensus. ah...that is one of the beautiful things that I love about philosophy...is the ability to learn from the teachers...the masters...and a true philosopher, IMO, is one who loves to teach, as well as to learn... I did not fail philosophy in college, I took many courses and did very well in them, however...I am always learning, always seeking for clarification and understanding... so,I am not an expert...I am very much a beginner in many areas of philosophy... I love it when others ask questions...because many times, I am hesitant to ask them in the middle of a discussion... ![]() |

if one had to prove every concept before discussing it we would be set back in the modernization department decades if not centuries discussion of an idea leads to the reality of the possibilities but hey........... or...the possibility of the reality!! Maybe I am not clearly understanding the point that the OP is attempting to make... I see the discussion of philosophy similar to the development of a hypothesis/theory...a series of thoughts that have the possibility to be realized on a certain level...yet, have to be tested and developed to play out...and philosophy is generally not "hard scientific facts"...at least my basic understanding... scientific discovery starts with a theory or hypothesis, no? I also see philosophy as the "art" side of science... I am not sure how someone would provide "evidence" as to the reality of a possibility or the possibility of a reality of a philosophical ideology... then, like I said earlier, perhaps I am not understanding the original post... |

guys - why?

Okay so this will probably come across as a generalization but I'm curious. The last 10 guys I've spoken with via email have come across with an almost instant "I love you" and I think we'd be great together. Within 2 days! These are men between 30 and 50 so I'd hope they actuaLly be mature. I'm slamming on the brakes trying to back up and figure out how we went from basic chitchat to a marriage proposal. And I point blank am telling them that I can't make any decision like that till we meet and am certainly not jumping that far ahead. What's up with that? I honestly think that these are scammers. This is generally their GOP... anyone that tells you they love you from a few emails has some serious issues, IMO. those are the ones that I used to really press to meet in person...(of course, I knew that they would come up with 100's of excuses why they couldn't meet...) they tended to go away pretty quick... Please, be very careful. |
