You could join an organization of some kind, such as a Star Trek fan club, if you're a fan. You can go to any free community events, or fund raising ones, such as pot lucks or bbqs, or even go to a farmers market. If you're on one of the state's coasts, take a trip through the coast. I gurantee you'd like it, especially in our hot summers.
