Kirsty Cox jailed for two years
for 450,000 iPad scam
3 January 2014 Last updated at

Kirsty Cox is thought to have
scammed hundreds of people by
claiming to have cheap iPads for
sale
A woman who defrauded
hundreds of customers in an
iPad scam worth 450,000 has
been jailed.
Kirsty Cox, from Newton Aycliffe,
County Durham, took thousands
of orders for the tablet computers
between March and December
2012 after claiming she could
source them at a reduced price.
Teesside Crown Court heard how
the 37-year-old was paid for the
devices but could not provide
them.
Cox, who previously admitted four
fraud charges, was jailed for two
years.
Judge George Moorhouse said her
offending had "caused misery" to
children last Christmas after
"tricking" their parents into
thinking she could supply the
presents.
The mother-of-two told people
she had a contact who could
provide her with iPads for 50 to
100 off the retail price, using her
"niceness" to "deceive" customers,
the court heard.
'Trusted her 100%'
Cox's former sister-in-law Karen
Kennedy and her husband Saul
took cash from work colleagues
which they passed on to her.
Mrs Kennedy said: "I had a really
close relationship with Kirsty and
she had a really good reputation.
"She told me that she could get
really cheap iPads and she had
been supplying them to loads of
companies and she just asked me
to spread the word at my work.
"I trusted her 100% and I had no
reason not to."
The court heard how on one
occasion Cox spent 1.52m on
iPads from PC World and then sold
them at a loss in a bid to cover
her tracks.
Saul and Karen Kennedy said they
felt "helpless" after being
scammed by Kirsty Cox
When she was arrested in
December 2012, Durham Police
kept her in custody for her own
safety after angry customers
gathered outside her home
demanding to know what had
happened to their orders.
Det Supt Neil Jones from Durham
Police said: "The actual real
cutting effect was for the people
who had been saving the small
amounts per week to buy iPads
for the kids for Christmas.
"To find out the week before that
your goods weren't coming was
devastating, people's Christmases
were ruined."
Mr Jones said one lady cancelled
her own wedding to try and pay
back the people she had taken
money from to give to Cox.
Saul Kennedy said: "You're feeling
everyone's pain and you can
understand why everyone is so
angry, but you feel absolutely
helpless.
"You're in a situation where you
can do nothing about it but these
people have trusted you with their
money. You are responsible."
Hundreds of people are believed
to have been victims of Cox's
scam. Shaun Dodds, prosecuting,
said the actual loss to customers
was more than 1.1m.
Judge Moorhouse jailed Cox as she
wept in the dock, despite hearing
that her family had suffered while
she spent six months on remand.
He said: "You have two young
children who suffered miserably
while you were on remand.
"I am afraid they are going to
suffer even more."

After some couple of jokes by comedians in a church. And a pastor was about to preach, the first comment he made was "jesters will not make heaven."
Is it in the Bible?

"They said to you that "In the last time there will be mockers, walking after their own ungodly lusts."

These are they who cause divisions, and are sensual, not having the Spirit." – Jude 1:18-19

The pastor is right in the light of the above passage and others in the old testament. This shows that Christianity is a serious matter and that Jesters should abstain from trivialising Christianity.

Thank you Highflyer for replying that topic it is not good to take advantage of God's grace because it is sufficient.

You're welcome.
The Bible is being seriously misunderstood and misinterpreted presently. If you believe in Jesus but do not obey his commands, you believe in vain.
By the way, Kibali, my heart goes out to you and your country over the terrorist attacks. My country's case is even worse.

Did you know that in the entire bible not once does it talk about premarital sex being "wrong" or morally an issue? The closest it comes to that is when it mentions adultery and lust, which aren't the same things.

I'm a Christian myself, but there is a HUGE, widespread problem right now with religious fanatics creating made up laws. I think all people should abstain from casual sex with somebody you don't love or truly care about... but that doesn't make it a sin. Besides even if it WAS a sin, we all fall short every single day and the price has been paid. Don't live in condemnation but rather be grateful that it's grace, not works by which we are saved.

Please read this. Christians conform to the Bible. There's no other interpretation.

Just want to let you know that sexual sin is a great drawback in any Christian life.

Acts 15:29 that you abstain from things sacrificed to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality, from which if you keep yourselves, it will be well with you. Farewell."

Nigeria leads Africa’s drain pipe to the developed world, posting a record $252 billion in 29 years. Libya comes second with $222 billion, while South Africa, Africa’s biggest economy comes third with $183billion.

Outflows recorded by West and central African nations, totalled between $459 billion and $493 billion in the period under review, with Nigeria accounting for more than 50 per cent.

"The resource drain from Africa over the last 30 years--almost equivalent to Africa's current GDP--is holding back Africa's lift-off," said Prof. Mthuli Ncube, Chief Economist and Vice-President of the African Development Bank.

African leaders: illicit outflow makes Africa net creditor to the world

"The traditional thinking has always been that the West is pouring money into Africa through foreign aid and other private sector flows, without receiving much in return. Our report turns that logic upside down - Africa has been a net creditor to the rest of the world for decades," said Raymond Baker, President of GFI, a Washington-based research and advocacy organization... "The African continent is resource-rich. With good resource husbandry, Africa could be in a position to finance much of its own development," said AfDB's Ncube.

"More than one trillion dollars flowed illicitly out of Africa over the past 30 years, dwarfing capital inflows, and stifling economic development," noted GFI Chief Economist Dev Kar, who previously served as a senior economist at the IMF.

Shame.....

Don't be fooled. The mafia believe that there is nothing like being 'too careful.'
And there is hardly any other group that lives as dangerously as they do.
Or else...you'll be swimming with the fishes.

Coffee and Champagne will not get you a hangover. Add Nigerian Suya (Well spiced roasted meat - kebab style) and...

Chick means you are young and delicate. You're definitely no cougar. Grey hairs? Will only make you more distinguished if a man's eyes sees them at all.
...and it was meant to be a compliment.

Want caffeine? Try Ugandan coffee.

You are not old. You are still a chick by all standards.

The drawback of Pretoria is that there's no sea. But I wouldn't really fancy ever swimming with the fishes. (No pun intended)

True, as you say; Ugandan weather is super...and good for cycling. Tempting...

$#@t happens everywhere, but it is better kept out of sight.

Jelof, yes. Kolanut is for elders. I won't let you grow old any faster.
Did I mention that I am a great cook?

PE - You tend to live a better life in small towns or the suburbs. The air is cleaner, the grass is greener and life is slower. Enough space and time for cycling, swimming and enjoying life.
Hustle and bustle of city life is not for me. I am old already, I've got nothing to prove.

Uganda - Well, I am checking it out now. One thing I love about your country is that you don't condone homosexuality. One would feel safe to go to a bar without being solicited by other men.

Wow! Indian ocean.
The sea looks calm.
Would love to visit Madagascar and Port-Elizabeth in SA.
We have lots of beaches in Nigeria. The rough part of the atlantic.
In one inland town, there's an artificial beach on a river bank where it traverses a hotel and people enjoy it.

Looking forward to some...

Amen to that! Bubbly it is-and i know the guests who flock for black gold will never stop!

And the idea of ''take all the hooks, rods and nets, then give them some fish back, from their own lake'' will continue to eternity!

Soooooo,
Champagne it is!

Sure.
There's no beach in Uganda, I believe. Where did you take that pic.
Looks like the caribbean.
