The bible can be opened up and its verses referenced to justify a point. We all do it. However, I think God is much deeper than that. God, I believe, really wants us to use the brain we were given and think deeply about things. I could just as easily point to 1Corinthians 15:22 and say that everyone will be saved, which I do believe we already have been, despite other verses that speak the contrary.

I always liked Eric Fromm's definition in "The Art of Loving"

"Love is 1oo% care and concern for the welfare and spiritual well being of the other"

Love is something you do. It's an action word. Love is a verb.

jmo

I agree with that too. I believe that's God's love for us and the love we should give back to our fellow man.

I'd say that there are many kinds of love. The greatest being the act of love that I believe Jesus did for us all: Die for our sins on the cross. I believe God is love and that love is unconditional. So, to me, the greatest love of all is not the love that Whitney Houston sings about in her song, The Greates Love Of All. It is the unconditonal love that God showed the world on the cross. As humans, it is hard for us to manifest unconditional love, but it can be done on occasion and the more you do it, the better you will get at it. The more you think of the love God has shown us in Jesus, the more that same kind of love manifests in your life towards others. Loving your neighbor as yourself helps too!:) I might also add that there are those that do not believe that God's love is unconditional and that there are conditions that must be met in order to get to heaven. You have to decide for yourself whether or not God's love is conditional or unconditional. Personally, if God is love then I don't believe love (ie. God) prepares a place of eternal torment for those that are loved.

While researching various religions I have come across something interesting that is hardly addressed. Fist most sites indicate what happens to a person who believes that particular religion. what I find that is not talked about is what happens to those who do not believe. So i pose this question to everyone. According to the religion you practice what happens to the person who has lived a good life and dies but does not believe your religion?

I was raised a Christian (Baptist). According to that traditional teaching, anyone who has not accepted Jesus into their heart as their personal Lord and Savior will go to a place called hell. I currently still consider myself a Christian, however, I am non denominational and I do not believe everything that was taught to me when I was growing up. I consider myslef a Christian because I believe that God exists and that Jesus did die for the sins of the world. As a result of that atonement, all of our sins have been forgiven and all are saved. I do not believe in a place called hell where non Christians go. Christianity, to me, is a man made religion. And although it is based on Jesus, I do not believe that Jesus supports many of the things taught in the name of Jesus. Jesus was not about religions. Mankind created religions.

I am asking this question with an open mind just to see what responses I will get:

Since humans were supposedly (for the sake of arguement I'm going with supposedly) created in God's image, why do we have tail bones?

Having a tail bone would suggest that at one time we had tails, but according to various religions, we were created as humans with no tails, which doesn't explain why we have tailbones...

I believe that the image that we were created in is a spirit image, not a flesh & bone one. God, I believe, is a spirit and, therefore, we too are spirits, but in a human fleshly body which houses our spirit or true self.

Turning the other cheek, how much forgiveness do you have in you? if given the opportunity can you forgive mass murders? Rapist? criminals of even the most heinous crime? or is there a capacity on forgiveness, should those who seek it be forgiven? if some one proclaimed their sins to you as a human to another human with all dogmatic factors aside, can you forgive without religious principles?

It's rather difficult to ask if someone can forgive without religious principles. Especially, if those religious principles are already instilled in a person. To answer your question, yes, it's easy for me, personally, to forgive becasue believing that our sins were forgiven by God through Jesus makes it easy for me. However, that's just me:)
