Probably overheard too much locker room garbage. There are gentlemen and creeps everywhere. He was stereotyping, and probably thought he could use it to his advantage, assuming you'd been treated poorly by an American fellow. 
Ditto, to cute down the men in America does not make him very thoughtful or respectful of others by stereotyping all American Men. 
What lake does he have nearby? Tell him to jump in it! lol There is not a place in this world you will find anyone perfect. To me when someone right off the bat starts putting anyone down that is a red flag to me. They are trying to make themselves look better wrong move.
