where's the freedom in restricing voters?

Have you ever heard the terms pompous and presuptuous
Have you ever heard the term ignoramus? Back when I was in highschool |

where's the freedom in restricing voters? Oh no no, first you're going to answer my question: where is the freedom in majority rules? To quote Jefferson, “A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.” So again, please, since my thinking is so "backwards," please give me an answer... and I will give you one. |

where isn't the freedom? is voting on the laws and regulations of our nation not a freedom being excersized? every branch in our government where there is voting works on the majority principle. and what freedomes shall be lost? no law should violate our founding documents. i really don't understand your logic. do you believe the minority should sway politics? |

I think the part here that is being missed is we work on a state by state system in each state majority rules each county and majority of them then rules the state and then majority of states rules country. Little steps of majority rules equals big majority rules.

Wrong, the judicial branch has nothing to do with "majority rules", as it is based on a system of unanimity, and the executive branch has no form of democratic decision making whatsoever. That's why it's called the EXECUTIVE branch. We have a separation of powers for a reason. The minority SHOULD have a valid sway in politics, because the history of this country is one of an oppressed minority, whether it was in the Revolution or the Civil War. Do you know what percentage of people during the Revolution supported secession from Britain? Do you know how many people in the North supported Lincoln's policies towards the South? A majority is irrelevant when it is at odds with the concepts of freedom. Your logic suggests that if a majority of people decided to throw the Constitution out tomorrow, then that in itself is just and democratic. Voting is indeed an expression of freedom. But government's have a habit of becoming tyrannical, even at the behest of your so-called "majority." That's why we were founded as a Republic, and that's why we are one to this day. |

no law should violate our founding documents. you've done nothing but rant and rave as long as the constitution is not violated, noone loses any rights or freedoms |

Right, that's what I thought. You can't even respond to me, probably because you just don't want to, so you repeat yourself instead. Move along.

Move along. you've gone off on your own little tangent without answering anything i've said.. what is it that you want to know? if the constitution should be thrown out if majority wants? yes, if that's what the majority of this nation desires. you're using little logic and a whooooole bunch of hostility, bud. no law passed should violate the constitution. so again, no minority should be opressed. if they are, then that is a clear violation. but hey, you wanna move on without adressing my issues. go for it |

President Bush will leave one important legacy. Not the high gas prices or the blunder in Iraq. His mismanagement of this country has galvanized voters to vote. People who have never considered voting important, which in my eyes is ridiculous, are getting motivated to vote this election. Arizona is almost at 80 percent voters ready to vote this election. Elsewhere the registrations are up also. For once the system may work like it is supposed to work, for the people by the people You are absolutely right, except that you put a "mis" in front of "mismanagement." You mean "management." Oh, yes the voters are galvanized to vote Republican, John McCain. After all, who in the world wants to vote for Hillary or Obama?! Hillary and her "mistakes" about the sniper fire. And Obama and his not knowing about Rev. Wright's anti-American rants. Between the two of them, they will implode the Democratic Parlty what with the way they are tearing each other apart. And there is so much dirty laundry being aired by both of them. It is the Democratic debacle that will put John McCain in the White House. Oh yes, the voters are galvanized against the Democratics and for the Republicans. |

Yet, our dislike of the mismanagement done by President Bush provokes us to vote for them anyway.

I wasn't so much referring to the popular vote as much as I was the electoral college. The point is that the electoral college is in place for a reason, and a very good reason at that. And Fanta is right, however, it depends on what you mean by "popular vote." Lincoln only had about 28% of the vote in his reelection year. There's only been a handful of times any president in this country got a majority of the votes, George W. Bush in 2004 being one of them. EDIT: Also the popular vote has been driving American politics for quite some time. I don't really know how you can say otherwise. That is not true, Bush would not have gotten in office in 2000 if popular vote counted so there would not have been 8 years of his bull. by that I am sure you mean that Kerry would have done nothing after 9/11 and American would have went into uprising cause everyone would have been pissed off. The patriot act wouldn't have been put in place and many disasters would have happened, including the loss of the Brooklyn Bridge. |

The original constitution never said anything about minorities to my knowledge. That wasn't really on their minds back then. Now, I don't think a minority should be oppressed, but I don't think they should be given special advantages either. Laws requiring colleges to have so many people of each race. I personally think that race shouldn't matter and it should be the best qualified. |

That imbecillic moronic idiot. Talk about a traitor and degrading our military. God have mercy on Kerry's soul. Lindyy |
