I will be traveling with my 13 yr old son to Ohio/Georgia/Texas then back home when school is out in June. We are going to be looking up our past. I have been looking forward to this for 3 years.
Look out dusty libraries and graveyards... here we come!!! |

Good luck and have fun with your son. That will give you more close bonding time with your son. I hope the two of you have a great time looking up your family history.

Have fun, I have an aunt big time into that. She claims to have traced my maternal side back hundreds of years. She shares tidbits and it is interesting. It seems a great way to teach your son the value of family bonding.

It can be real fun to trace your past. I have been at it for over a decade. I would like to add that it can be addictive. I never cared much for research until I got to tracing it. I am a member of Olive Tree which is like Ancestory.com . Have successfully traced back my line to 1109. The interesting data you can collect and some people really get into it. A have a friend who after searching through cementaries has actually helped through donations to replace headstones and the like. It is a great way to meet new friends. My grandfather's brother's daughter did much research the old fashioned way and had a collection of very old pictures which she shared. It is a wonderful hobby to get the whole family involved with.

Good luck and be thorough in your search. Lots of places to look and be sure to keep your notes. A few family members and I traced our paternal lineage a while back. It took us over nine years to get it all down but we did it. Then it scared the crap out of us all!!!
Mixed feelings to know that you are descended from a bloodthirsty prince from Romania. |

Thanks to all who have responded. My late great aunt traced her mothers side back to 1440 to England. I am doing my fathers side. There have been tons of stories (all of which I have writen down).
I am going to Ohio to see if I am related to a LTC Sempitus L. Brewer of GA. My great and great great grandfather resided in OH so I start there. If I find out that my ggreat grandfather was married to a Georgia Cody from GA then I hit the jack pot *S* If not, then I have the fun of tracing a new limb *S* |

I have done my fathers side but if I traveled to the place my great grandfather came from, I would have to go to Denmark.
lucky for me most relatives have stayed close to the homestead. the few that have traveled across states I have been in contact with either by email or phone. my mothers side my great grandmother was full blood English and great grandfather full blood German now that would have been interesting to be a fly on the wall |
