Strong and steady he stood by my side
Life’s turbulence kept tossing me to and fro More than once after getting up, For a moment or two I wondered just who would care If my life came to a screeching grinding halt Then in the seemingly endless empty space His face came into view, at the time the reason was far from clear But today at the mere mention of his name my heart begins to soar My pulse flutters as if it had turned to a butterfly Oh if he only knew what he has given me Now as he slips into his uniform Preparing to head to a world where love does not exist Hatred hanging so thick in the air one could almost taste it Tears cannot be kept from sliding down these cheeks Fear that just kept building up can no longer be held at bay Those who don’t understand just shoot me a quizzical glance If it’s too much why stay? Those words turn my stomach as much as this war I stay because… He has restored the woman I once was Disability or not that man loves me Those who choose to turn their backs Tired of reassuring and drying tears That’s fine I WILL stand strong behind him Until this hellish nightmare has ended And why? It’s just what we do |
