when my father died, during the wake I couldn't stay away from his casket, just hoping he would start breathing again at any moment. frown but I placed a picture of me and my brother in his jacket pocket near his heart so that made me feel a little better.

omg, i'm sorry, that's........no words.

When I go to a funeral now, and at the end when everyone goes up to view, I politely go out the door. I try to go to the family visitation the day before the funeral to speak to the family, but..I just don't go up to the casket. I hate funerals, but..I know there's always going to be one. Since the death of my son, my husband..I just don't like to go view..or stay at the funeral home..I've never been to a wake before..but I know it's when everyone gets together and celebrates the life of the deceased.

im sorry for the loss of your son and your husband

i hate funerals to, at my aunts funeral, her duaghter grabbed the coffin and was holding it, she wanted to get her mom out. ill never forget that day, the saddest day of my whole life. just thinking about me upsets me. seeing my cousin like that was devastating. thats something ill never forget.

i couldn't imagine this either, in some ways, i'm glad i have nobody that's close like that. i have good friends, but it's not the same.

A wake is the celebration of the life of the one who has passed. It usually take place right before the funeral and no the body is not present at the wake.

The time between death and burial is based on tradition or religion. Some faiths only have two days for the burial to take place, others have until the sundown of the sabbath. It really varies.

I had a cousin, Travis, recently die... He got out of his truck up in Oregon, and fell a thousand feet to his death... there was no ground beneath him!

Shame...

Thank you...I'm fine, I've dealt with it and gone on....friends can be like family as well though.:) I hate that anyone has to experience death, but I know everyone has to eventually.

it was truly devasting, seeing my cousin in so much pain broke my heart. seeing her holding the coffin, and wanting to get her mom out was so heartbreaking to see. she was cremated, they also let her hold the coffin, during the service. i bought a angel that plays wind beneath my wings, that was my aunts favourtie song, and it was played at her funeral. the weird thing was i bought my cousin one to, this angel was holding a baby, we found out after i bought it for her she was pregnant, its weird the angel was holding a baby, playing her moms favourite song, which was played at the funeral. weird, but in a nice way.

The wakes I have attended have all had the deceased laid out in the casket for loved ones to pay their final respects.

at my aunts funeral you dont see the body. if i saw the body i would faint. i had a panic attack at my aunts funeral because i was crying so bad, my dad had to catch me before i fell to the ground. a bad panic attack makes me collapse.im glad my dad caught me, that would be a bad thing to happen at a funeral.

Definitely. The casket is usually closed after the funeral service at the Funeral Home, just prior to transport to the cemetery and burial.

I have had panic attacks in the past and I know how terrible they can be. (((debbie1980)))

I'm usually in denial when it comes to thinking about losing someone really close to me these days - as most people are. We have to be to get through each day. Death is not something most people are prepared to ponder casually. It is very tragic when we come face to face with the loss of someone to it before their time.

However, for some elderly, it is long awaited and yearned for rest and peace. God Bless them.
