IRS Investigates Obama's Denomination

Tuesday, February 26, 2008 8:00 PM

The IRS is investigating the United Church of Christ over a speech Barack Obama gave to its national meeting last year after he became a candidate for president.

Obama is a member of the church.

A spokesman for the denomination says it received notice of the inquiry on Monday.

The IRS says there is reason to believe the speech violated restrictions on political activity for nonprofit groups. The denomination denies any wrongdoing.

Church officials say they had consulted with lawyers before the Democrat's June 2007 speech and made clear before Obama's address that he was speaking as a church member, not a political candidate.

maybe she did maybe not

but he does not control the church that i know of

so anyone with any common sense would not let this

influence their vote other than to think it is dirty politics

and not vote for whom they think is responsible

I think that if anyone is suggesting that there was inpropriety going on that the safe money is on the clinton camp,,,, this is how they operate, and it has been done time and time again over the years, kneecapping anyone who stands up against them.... and to think that some crazy people were going to try to elect her as the next bill,,, wow, dodging bullets arent we.

Politically speaking, a senator has the juice to inquire about that sort of thing to the irs. not saying she's guilty but it wouldnt surprise me any.

I personally dont think that the church should be investigated based on the fact that a man, one man, gave a speech, it borders on infringement of free speach- doesnt it..... i mean i cant stand the guy but his is a voice that like any other deserves to be heard.

A side note; how about investigating all politicians by the IRS, crooked S O Bs.... ladies included. oooops women included

ladies included

if they were ladies they would not need investigated

all are politicians

and most need investigated

and

any who pass a law should be subject to such law

if they say you must submit to drug testing

then they should be subject to said test
