Here's the deal-

Do long-distance relationships actually work? Are they actually worth the trouble? Do they actually result in anything worthwhile? Or just end up in heartbreak and crap?

Inquiring minds wanna know. But since I'm the one who asked the question, you're gonna have to deal with me, instead.

It depends on what one expects... if it's the 'quick fix, instant gratification' variety of relationship... then probably not.

If both parties are creating a more permanent, enduring, no obligation type of relationship, then distance is a state of mind, and..."all good things come to those who wait..".. bigsmile

I believe some do...

I believe some are worth the trouble...if u want to referr to it as that...

I do believe they can result in something worthwhile...

Some do and some don't....

Been there done that....

At this time I know so much more about life..

I have the oppportunity now to be were ever I want..

I would be willing to give it a try again....

Worst case..go home...

But this person would have to be extremely worthy and extraudinarily genuine and mind blowing special...

I believe he is out there..

till then..I will take my time...
noway WOW, GREAT ANSWER! Mine to.. bigsmile

i dont think long distance works because the deeper the feelings the more it hurts to be apart, and trust is alot more difficult.

it should work! LOL..coz i dont find men here interesting, thats why i gave online dating a shot...well, id say it would work..one just have to be patient, and honest all through out..its most likely the same with a relationship with someone who live close..it would still boil down to one point, relationship would take honesty, faithfulness and loyalty

I believe! My 8 month LDR ended...but I think it can work. Sure its easier dating someone closer. But for all those thinking about long distance relationships...dont laugh, or think its impossible. It works if you have strong commitment and respect for that person. If you really believe that someone out there is the someone you love, let love have no boundries. Also remember, dont let people laugh at your for trying a long distance relationship. It means you didn't settle for someone because of distance, that you have a stronger relationship than most, and that you chose to try fishing in an ocean...rather than the same murky pond.

I have no idea how other people make this work, but Eileen and I make it work every day. She is the love of my life. Some of what we do.......Phone calls every day. E-mails on a frequent basis, text messages by the thousands, post cards and letters. And the knowledge of what we were getting into. Our love for each other just gets stronger each and every day.

If they both can keep it in their pants then it can work.......and then there is the trust issue.....

Yes they work!! I am in one now, he is 1600 miles away from me, we talk everyday on the phone, several times a day...we put the effort in to make it work, honesty, communitcation, trust..it all goes hand in hand. I love him and he loves me, nothing is gonna keep us apart

It works if YOU want it to!

I personally don't think they work, unless it's in a pen pal type of thing.

This is TOTALLY up to the couple. Your degree of intent will be the same as your degree of results. "IF" you want to make something work; you will. All relationships are built on give & take. Lots of work, truthful conversation, some sacrifice & soul searching will bring you to what you want.

I think it depends on what you mean by relationship...there have to be some concessions made for distance, Im in a LDR with someone who lives two continents away. I believe we are committed to making it work but it has many challenges...love isnt a question and as someone already stated the deeper the feelings then the more it hurts to be separated.
Optimism, humor, affection and GOOD communication are key to making LDR do-able....
