Anybody know of a free program that will allow me to rip a movie onto my computer. For some reason my Windows Media has been lost on my computer. Kinda annoying.

Be aware that DVDs come with copy protection, that will make trying to make a dupe to your computer rather difficult. There WAS one program that could do this, but they were sued by the studios as well as the feds and has since gone the way of the dodo.

DVD Decrypter is a highly versatile VOB-ripping utility. The software takes advantage of both the DeCSS Plus and VobDec algorithms for looking up and decrypting the CSS encryption(copy protection code). you will also need... dvd shrink... http://www.dvdshrink.org/ DVD Decrypter==you will be able to burn DVD's to your hard drive---even if it has copy protection software on it.. and then use shrink to record the movie on a disk!!! |

As much as paying for a movie every time you want to watch it on another devices, such as your TV, Computer, iPOD, PSP etc etc etc sounds like a great value for money.

Thank you all for your help. I have tried the Handbreak one but sadly I could not figure it out...lol. I am aware of the protection crap on normal DVDS but the one I want back on my computer is one that I have already downloaded and burnt already. So I am knowing there is no protection issues here. I will try the DVD-decrypter. Thanks all.

I ended up using DVD Shrink. It was fast and easy to use. Takes about 20 minutes to copy and burn.
