LIJOMA I completely think it is him being 25. I am 23 and well 'what's up' just seems to be the lingo of the generation. I catch myself saying it to my friends when they call me. I wouldn't take it too much to heart. maybe talk to him about it? either way good luck! Hell, I'm 41 and I say "What up?" My parents say it too... I guess I should have added i just really don't think it has anything with her kids being bi-racial. it was just definitely an overreaction |

Oh hell I'm 47 and say whats up all the time. It's a question not an insult. Gawd!

(I can only sit here and shake my head and say,"What Up")

38 in less than 2 weeks and still say whats up?

....but I think that maybe I over reacted. What do you think?
It really does not matter what I think.. It matters what you think.. I think your thinking is about right. You over reacted. 5 years age difference? Is nothing. 5 years means you two are in the same generation. I believe that being selective and not settling are both good things.. but like all things, both good and bad.. Too much of anything is always too much. |

He had never talked like that until I invited him to my house. Great conversations. Then it was like his entire conversation changed, then the next morning is when he texted me that. Maybe should have put that on the original post, or did that make a difference? Sox let me know- wise beyond

I'm 39 and I have and still do say "What's up" all the time. Maybe it is something to do with the way you were raised or something but I don't think it has anything to do with age.

SORRY. I did not mean to offend anyone with the ? U are absolutely right, I was not raised to say What up to people, I say, Hello, How are you? or Goodmorning, or something like that.
I do see that I over reacted on the situation or lack there of, but I cannot change what happened. I am just not use to that like I see alot of other people are. |

yeah think u over reacted maybe he was just changing things up a bit if i were him and u treated me this way i'd move on.

I don't think it's a race thing eather. Maybe he always said it, just not to you yet......

Everyone - I think there is a distinction that many of you are missing. The phrase in her post was "What up", not "What's up". Seems like a trivial difference, but there is a huge difference, since "what up" was derived more from ebonics and, for lack of a better term...street talk. Commonly this is associated with minorities (probably the reason she suspected her bi-racial kids had something to do with this).
None of that information changes the fact that I think it was an overreaction, but it's an important difference to note. LIJOMA - were you trying to ask me something in the last post...it wasn't clear, and it seemed like your post cut off. |

OP, you've said that you really liked this guy, brought up the age difference and wrote him off for saying "what up?". I'm thinking there is more to this because if it is then, oh yeah, you over-reated. Are you concerned about the age difference? Are you looking for reasons this can't work out?
As for him coming to your house, I think he felt more relaxed with you and simply thought it would be a cute way to start your day. |
