Topic: To Sag or Not to Sag? | |
---|---|
Sagging is a manner of wearing pants or shorts below the waist, hanging around the buttock area. This manner of dress is practiced, mainly, by young males. It is closely associated with hip-hop music and fashion, as well as gang culture. It is also common among skateboarders. The punk fashion style is also associated with sagging. Sagging is said to have its origins in the prohibition of belts among incarcerated inmates, which spread to urban youth as a fashion statement for its 'tough guy' cachet. Other root origins are also male inmates sagging to publicly display that they have had sexual relations with other males. It has less use for the meaning and is now for 'tough guy' public display. Initially worn by Southern California gang members, it became a national phenomenon when gangsta rap artists from Los Angeles became popular in the early 90s.[1][2][3] In early September, 2007, the city of Atlanta was debating whether to have the fashion statement made illegal under an ordinance sponsored by Council member C.T. Martin. This proposal caused considerable feedback. In many school districts across the United States, sagging is prohibited.[citation needed] The Virginia General Assembly tried, but failed to approve a law making the sagging style illegal in February 2005.[citation needed] In June 2007, the Town council of Delcambre, Louisiana passed an indecent exposure ordinance, prohibiting people wearing trousers which show their underwear.[4] I dare anybody to call you ignorant. double dog dare me and i might go for it. |

I'm not a lady, but I'd like my chance to answer. Sagging in my opinion is just not cool. Look at where it comes from. And if you think I'm being racist I'm not. Woah, there. Calm your britches. Wonderbread never says anything without the ability to back it up. The last thing he is is ignorant. Careful what you say. Do your research before starting something. I'm too tired for this crap tonight. Peace out. Whatever kiddo. Yeah, I'm not the person who runs this site, but I'm pretty sure that being mean to people is highly frowned upon. If you'd like I can point that out to you as well. |

Ok, this cute guy that just passed in my direction just inspired this question. I don't like the whole 'gangster' style of sagging... as far as pants go, I think the waist on pants should be at your waist or slightly below, but never at a sagging level. I have seen some ridiculous amounts of sagging, too... What do the rest of you ladies think... do you find it more attractive for guys to have their pants falling off or staying up where they should be? So.. restating my original post... what do the rest of you ladies think? |

Don't like sagging, think it looks ridiculous. Also the baggy pants the skateboarders wear. I always think about what they would have said if there parents had told them they "had" to wear them that way. Would have had a rebellion for sure and the kids would be wearing them tight for sure.
Also don't like women who wear their tight jeans with their thongs sticking out, but the men will likely not complain about that one (sorry, didn't mean to insult the guys here), just think it is tacky and the young girls see the older women doing it and copy it, too. Just my preference. Think "underwear" should be "under" clothing. I worked in the prison system for 17 years, and inmates were infracted for sagging, but I did not know the history behind it. |
