There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind.

She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always there for her.

She told her boyfriend, 'If I could only see the world, I will marry you.'

One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. When the bandages came off, she was able to see everything, including her boyfriend.

He asked her,'Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?'

The girl looked at her boyfriend and saw that he was blind. The sight of his closed eyelids shocked her. She hadn't expected that.

The thought of looking at them the rest of her life led her to refuse to marry him.

Her boyfriend left her in tears and days later wrote a note to her saying: 'Take good care of your eyes, my dear, for before they were yours, they were mine.'

Never donate two of something when one will do.

Most excellent phylisopical moral, as every good fable should contain. Proof that good observation, does not require eyes at all.

Here are some questions for those in whom a more 'emotional' responce was solicited.

Is it emotion, only, that brings one to glorify and idolize a man who would die for the sake of love? Is that, then, the psychology behind the Christian religion?

Should it then be considered the most vuluable of all human qualities, to die for the sake of others?

The earliest religions believed in human sacrifice, thinking that such sacrifice benetifted the common good. It would make a great deal of sense that eventurally FEAR of being chosen or for a loved one to be chosen as that sacrifice would be sufficient for a creative mind to overcome.

What better solution, than, to create the ULTIMATE sacrifice scenario, would make all other human sacrifice unnessary? Yet another psychologically based formula founded on negative reinforcement. Believe in the one and only sacrifice needed to eliminate the fear of being chosen to be the next sacrificial lamb.

And do you think that is part of the reason that the keeping of pet (as opposed to work) animals is so pervasive in our culture? Because we have potential sacrificial animals conveniently at hand? Maybe if we kept the animals as part of the family then we would not have to sacrifice actual family members but could sacrifice the animals instead...

I think it is very plausible, that lovers pledged to die for one another and then decided that if they could feel ready to do such a thing shouldn't their God be at least equally willing to do so? Shouldn't their *god* in fact be willing and able to do *more* than they could?

But which came first, a god that would die for you or a human? The idea that wanting to or being wiling to die for another person stems from "god dying for man" stories does make a kind of sense and is appealing to me.

But then I think the notion could more likely have just arisen from that burst of emotion you get when you look at a lover or other beloved (which can also easily happen when looking at your child) and you think, "this person is so important to me, I can think of nothing I care about more, I would rather die myself than allow anything bad to happen to this person..."

So to me it was probably an instinct to bargain, to think "I would die for you", "I would do anything for love."

Of course dying for the mother of your children or the children themselves also could just have arisen from survival instinct. Genetic continuation is a stronger instinct than individual survival in many creatures. So preserving a potentially impregnated female is more imparative to the male that has a strong genetic survival instinct than keeping himself alive... It's just practical.

But for me it's enough to have had that feeling, and to continue to have it every day.

There is much to say about how instict for the suvival of one's lineage comes into play. A woman with child, whose paternal lineage was allowed to be murdered. Some cultures allowed murder of the child and some cultures developed the chastity belt. Our survival instict is not necessarily for the species first, but for the lineage.

That makes the original pre-Christian, and early Christian religion much more significant. Twelve tribes, chosen people, even marrying within the 'race'. In the early times the 'race' was much purer as communication of the Hebrew faith was 'tribal' and therefore lineage oriented.

Man is a creative beast, and will go to many extremes to keep peace with an ego that requires control.

On the show House last night they had a woman that was sick and her liver was dying. She needed a transplant but even that was only going to give her a few days. Dr house had somehow figured that she was probably not in love with the woman she was living with and was at her bed side now. The woman that was dying admitted to one of the Dr.'s that she planed on leavening her girlfriend. The Dr's figured out that the woman had a matching blood types and the healthy one could donate half of her liver. Dr House went in, and in front of the sick woman and her girlfriend put on a big show that ended up making the girlfriend volunteer her liver because she loved her partner so much.

The big fight between the Dr's then was it immoral not to tell the woman giving up her liver and risking her life, that she may be dumped soon after? Dr house said no the moral thing is to save our patients life. it was very cool show.
