Topic: How long have you been on the internet? | |
---|---|
Since I was about 13 or 14...so around 12 or 13 years :) Most of the changes I've seen have been of illegal ventures lol (mostly within the hacking community as compared to the spam emails telling you to send $200 so that you can recieve your check for $3.5 million that you just won) and the introduction of warez (freewarez, sharewarez) the rise and fall of Napster. Saw hackers go from very public to now, where you never see their pen names anywhere anymore and they keep themselves to their own little "underground internet" I kind of miss the mid to late 90s internet...but then, I'm still stuck in the 90s anyway, so I just miss everything about that time period. *shrugs* Late 90's! Bring 'em back! |

I've been online since 89' I guess it's a give and take. The commercialization has grown, but so has the amount of information available.

Bring 'em back! Amen! I'm sure it's been said every new generation, but this generation is seriously falling into dis-repair. In the 90s we wore our clothes loose, in the 00s they wear them falling off. In 1999 gas was 89 cents a gallon, now you're lucky if you can find it for $2.89/gal. The internet was used more for informational purposes..now it's all about porn and "work-from-home" schemes. Cartoons still had class to them back then...(although, I do believe Ren and Stimpy, Beevis and Butthead and The Simpsons was the beginning of the end of classic cartoons. lol Gotta love the Simpsons though ) Dunno...seriously, let's take it back 10 years...I'll gladly take everything that that entails (a Clinton in the presidency and everything lmao) than what we have today. |

I've been using it since 1996. My first computer had a 1 gb capacity, the second 3.2 gb. When I got one that had 20 gb, it seemed like some sort of miracle.
The main thing I've noticed is that, as the internet becomes more accessible and more mainstreamed, the overall level of user literacy and real interpersonal communication continues to drop. |

Haha ok my only qualm there is that you said cartoons had "class" and then cited Beavis and Butthead and Ren and Stimpy. Not sure if that's a textbook definition of class, haha.
As for the generational degradation, every generation says that. The 90's generation was seen as appalling be the previous generation because we wore our pants way looser than they had, and were far more outspoken, crude, and apathetic. |

I agree, if my company email goes down for a day it's like the world has come to an end. People call me and say "did you get the email I sent you" I say "no but now that your on the phone why don't you just tell me". |

No, I was saying those were the beginning of the downfall of classic cartoons. Where things started to go massively wrong "Classy" cartoons are like, the old Looney Toons with Bugs Bunny and the Martian, more often than not they never even spoke...but really, they didn't have to. lol |

There are a few things I would of missed out on. I just think to many people spend way to much time on the net and I do to, but it can suck your life away... |
