wouldn't be bad if you didn't need a super computer to get the same performance out of vista as you would with xp (my laptop has a gig of ram and a decent duel core processer and still there is a warning that pops up every so often saying that it is low on memory when the only thing i have open is internet explorer) it idles at about 4% processor use and about 700 mb of ram. Is 70 running processes normal after you shut down every program that you can through task manager?

WOW I have norton, task mgr, int expl and a genealogy program running along with im...and only have 55 processes running. you must have a lot of stuff in the background somewhere |

ty... just wondering weather I should add more memory or just buy a new comp with the vista os.....

I switched & then switched back
I use it at work, but run into application issues here at home. |

ty... just wondering weather I should add more memory or just buy a new comp with the vista os..... depends on how much you are going to spend...lol...as with any os, you have to update drivers for peripherals and all that hassle. If that does not bother you, is cheaper to buy vista and then get updated drivers. |

i beeen using ever since it came out. only problem i had was old software that wouldnt work at first. but now i got all the bugs out of it.

ty... for all ur input... I would prob have to buy all new printers and scanners... rite... if I was to switch....
Not really computer literate... so I would actually feel more comfortable with upgrading my memory and keeping the XP os |

not necessarily have to buy all new stuff. If it is only year or two old and from one of the larger companies, updated drivers are avail for most everything now
ok thank you... I will give it some consideration.... either way...
It took me a while to get used to it, but I like it.

depends on what you are running.......a good computer with XP can be less money to add ram then to upgrade. You can run the Vista advisor to see if what you have will run Vista.

Wonder if it's cuz i have an hp laptop.... maybe i should bring it to someone and have them mess with it. Anyhow, i probably would be a lot more happy with it if i didn't like to play games....oh yeah, and if this "low memory" warning didn't pop up every time i had more than just internet explorer working. (For some reason if i have microsoft word and internet explorer going at the same time it freaks out) I just was a bit dissapointed seeming how the computer is brand new and only program i have installed in this thing is microsoft office, and oh yeah it came with norton antivirus. |
