A rather nosy friend of mine suggested that I try this place out. This is ironic, as I had a less-than memorable experience with another dating site that said nosy friend had gotten me into.

Thanks for the replies, people. And no- the people at the "other site" were nowhere near as cool.

The place didn't even have a forum, for god's sake- instead of forums, they had myspace-esque 'journals' where you put in your 'most intimate thoughts"... which would be fine, if the journals weren't made available for all the other users to read!

Needless to say, said nosy friend of mine was taken back when I referred to that other site as "myspace for losers", which it pretty much was.

well, this is myspace for the cool.

I'm sure the people at that other site would LOVE to hear that.
