Yeah, some of the people who have asked to have their profiles rated, are people I have known here for awhile, who are demonstrably NOT attention whores, based on their long histories of participation here....

For several months now, I've been receiving requests from people asking me to look at their profiles and offer feedback --although this is through e-mail -- and I have to admit, I thought it might be interesting to compare my impressions of a profile with other people's impressions -- what I've seen, though, has been disappointing, in that most of the feedbackers are just throwing out blanket approvals, giving ratings of ten or more, with nothing constructive/instructive to say, no specific commentary....

But that's exactly the same thing that happens when there's a "Rate My Picture" thread. Everybody gives everybody else a 10 or more, thereby defeating the whole purpose of a rating in the first place (unless the "purpose" is simply to get people to lie to you for your own self-esteem! -- hardly seems like a good long-term strategy)....

Somebody asked me why I haven't put a profile rating request in the "Rate My Profile" forum. First, because I get plenty of mail about it as it is. I have people who go back and read it every week (or even more frequently) for the updates. Secondly, I really don't have any particular interest in, or need to know, what anyone thinks of it. It's very long. If you like it, fine; if not, that's fine too. It is what it is.

But for those who do want their profiles rated -- I have no problems with that. I would just like to see some better feedback. Maybe that will happen as people get comfortable with the forum....But I wouldn't bet large sums of money on it
