I had hyperthyroidism and now have hypothyroidism due to having a thyroidectomy almost 40 yrs ago. I am now on tablets for the rest of my life.

The best person to speak to would be an endocrinologist as not everyone presents with the same symptoms.

I know that too much iodine can cause hyperthyroidism, and not enough can cause hypothyroidism. Terrestrial foods are low in iodine. Fish have moderate iodine. Seaweeds have extremely high amounts of iodine (just a penny-size flake of kelp has the daily intake and too much can be toxic). Cats are mostly terrestrial carnivores and often get hypothyroidism when they are fed fish.
