Topic: New Kitten | |

I may have found myself a new kitten! Not certain yet, but at the same time I think it's going to work out :)
I found a few litters online but either already reserved or they ask E300-E400 (USD is same) for 1 kitten? Then it's not even spayed/neutered! I asked Spirit to help me out and simply guide me to the right kitten for me and Nila. Today I decided to phone the shelter as they usually have litters too, realising it's still early in the season. Lo' and behold they have 1 litter! Born last week, 3 kittens; 1 male, 2 females. I made an appointment to go see them next week :) They don't let anyone with the litter yet so I have to be patient. I should get photos in as she just made some this morning :) Excited! |

I am glad, you contacted the animal shelter. A little wee kitty will have a lovely new home for sure Thank you! I will be happy for sure, for myself but also for Nila. I can really tell that she's too alone. Not lonely per say, but no more fellow cat in tha house. She's really taken over the role of 'having to keep an eye on everything' since Bailey has made his transition. Really odd as Bailey never did that, but I'm guessing maybe it was his energy & presence more than him running around to keep an eye on other cats outdoors? Nila is far more restless now. She used to sleep in the evenings, now she keeps running from window to window. She even tries to do so when I've got the rolling blinds down? Tiny gaps at the bottom which she tries to use as lookouts by bending over, hihi. She keeps doing that until approx. 23.00?! Quite amazing to notice how things shift energetically when 1 cat has gone... |

I'm happy for you and I'm sure Nila will be over joyed once you decide this one is the one and bring them home.. It will give Nila something to focus on... She is missing her buddy...
And kuddos for choosing the Animal Shelter.. to find her a buddy.. Seems at times when animals are being rescued even those that you already have seem to know they were in a bad place..And tend to take to them even more then they normally would.. <3 |

It's a shelter that never puts animals to sleep unless they have no other choice. I'm excited, but still wait and see of course :) I Have to feel a bond with an animal and that I cannot tell yet. |

Well... suddenly I'm getting more options!!
I'd asked on a neighbourhood App if anyone had -or knew someone with- a cat that was expecting. Took a few days but today someone replied giving me contact info of someone who has TWO expecting cats!!! AND... both cats are 3-colour, which is what I'm hoping for! So red, black, white. I've wanted a cat like that for yonks, and it's what I'm hoping to find now. The ones in the animal shelter are black & white and in that sense not what I was hoping to find, and have been longing for for so long. And since this is possibly going to be the last kitten I'm going to take in this life, considering I'm 56 and cats live 14 yrs on average... Unless I decide to get another cat when I'm around 70, hihi. If this is going to be the last cat this life I want it to be what I really really really long for, a 3 colour!! The only bummer is that these kittens won't be born until end April / beginning May. But I've decided I'm going to wait for that. I'm nr 2 on her waiting list so there will be no doubt of me getting choice of a kitten with 2 litters on the way! She showed me a photo of last year's litter she had and all were ginger & white or 3-colour. So I'm thrilled! |

One litter is likely going to be born around King's Day, which is April 27th!
I'm really very excited about it and am keeping my fingers crossed there's going to be a 3 coloured kitten! Not certain if I will have to choose from the first litter or if she's okay if I'd wait for the 2nd to be born too before I choose. I don't want to lose my luxury position of being nr 2 to choose. I'm going to ask Spirit again to help me with it so I will indeed get the right kitten for me and my Nila! The latter is very important as I do hope for my pets to get along. |

The 2nd litter is born!! And... there are 2 three-coloured cats in it!! YAY!
Mother delivered in the attic of a barn and they were going to move the litter. Then it's giving mother time to adjust so she doesn't move the kittens again. But I expect I can soon go over to visit and choose the new kitten for me & Nila! The first litter was born 8 days ago, and had one 3-colour. Unfortunately the person with Nr 1 choice wanted that one. Fortunately there was a 2nd pregnant cat and now there are 2 3-coloured! Also a white with red one that appeals a lot. But I think taking 2 kittens might be too much for Nila. Always difficult to decide what is best and you never know whether it's going to work out. |

I went over tonight to choose the kitten that's going to come live with me and Nila when she's a bit older!
They want to let the kittens go when they're 8 weeks. I'm going to try by then if I can wangle another week out of it as 8 weeks is really way too soon. Best would be 11-12 weeks. And although I wouldn't like to wait that long, you would get a kitten that's better socialised as she got more time with mum & siblings. Now I don't think they're up for longer. They're like farmers although they aren't. So if I can get a week extra... This is her, the 3 colour in the middle I do like the white & red one, a male. But I'm not going to take 2 kittens as I feel that's going to be too much for Nila. |

Went to see the kitten again, now a week old, on the way back from the DIY (it's en route then).
And what a beauty! I could see it properly this time, held it too. I sure as heck made the right choice! She's incredibly cute, hihi. |

How do you introduce a new cat to the group, Larsi? I've seen her again this afternoon, held her. She's so sweet! And one of the smallest of the litter. When I got home I again let Nila smell my hands. She sure as heck smells the other kitten! She thoroughly sniffs my hands, then rubbed her head against it. I guess to put her scent on my hands again, hihi. When the kitten is a bit larger I intend to take a cloth with me to pet her cheeks with. I can then put that in the living room for Nila. Anything that can help the two getting along when the kitten is here! |

Anything that can help the two getting along when the kitten is here! There is no iron rule, because all cats are different characters. But do the introduction slowly, step by step, maybe keep them in different rooms first, so they can get used to different smells and voices. And always treat all cats in the same way, to prevent the "old" ones getting jealous. |

Okay, thanks!
I'll just see how it pans out :) It also depends if Nila happens to be indoors or not when I come back home with the new one. I remember all cats got quite the shock when introducing Nila. Both Bramble & Bailey were outdoors, Nila'd had a few hours to acclimatise and sleep after all the new stuff. She was just walking round a bit when the Bailey came in, hairs on her back up, thick tail, haha. Bailey just stopped dead in his tracks on his way in, kind of flabbergabbered, not sure what to do. Bramble reacted strong and negative from the word go whereas Bailey & Nila were quite okay together. So indeed the character of each cat that makes it either work, or not. Nila is really quite attached to me. Wait and see. Introducing a new family member always makes me feel clumsy. I had the same thing with my li'l toddler son when his baby sister was born. It's not entirely the same, but somehow it is. It is a thing for me because of my past with my sister who was always jealous of me because I was healthy and she has epilepsy. We never got along as she made my life miserable as much as she could. That made the whole 'getting along' thing between family members / siblings so much more important to me that it makes me clumsy at achieving it. |

You might laugh, but cats can be like little kids indeed. Quite attached to their mom, and if a new member comes into the family, there might be some serious jealousy. Regardless, I wish you all the best

Regardless, I wish you all the best Thank you! And yes, making it all the more important to keep giving her tons of attention! Bailey was a little jealous too when Nila was here. Lasted a nr of weeks, and not constantly noticeable. Just when she had a new toy with catnip for instance as he was always nuts about that. He'd then nick it and play with it and if Nila wanted to join in or take it back he showed who was boss, haha. (in a gentle but very clear way) |
