Watching bits and pieces of it and even I as a European am quite astounded at the amount of (ancient) ritual that's involved. Some dating back to Henry VIII.
I don't think this would be the case in The Netherlands as Dutchies tend to whinge and whine about "how much does this cost the tax payer?". Many don't seem to care for any protocol and ritual anymore. What I am also thinking about... would this in any shape or form affect Harry & Meghan's relationship? He's now fully steeped in his roots, his country of origin, his family, and the European way of life. Maybe he's beginning to realise what he's lost. I'd also love to know what goes on in Meghan's head now. I can't help but think she's probably longing to be back in LA, her American lifestyle with celebrity BS. As an American she doesn't have any affinity with all this, which would even be quite something for a European woman without royal background, nor won't she have any affinity with Western-Europe. The cultures are quite different. I guess we will never know. One thing during the funeral I found kind of weird. They sang the anthem "god save the king". I had expected they'd sing 'god save the queen' as its her funeral. Just a tribute, one last time. |
