Hardly anyone had dial-up here. We had cable. Using the same cable as tv, you do need a thingie installed indoors for the internet though, and of course a cable modem. You plug the modem into the thingie, an internet cable in the modem and PC and Bob's your uncle!
Having cable could cause problems for me when I was part of a gaming clan with English people. The server was in the UK too, and all members had dial-up, except me. The guy that ran the server and clan kept thinking I was cheating as he said I moved so fast. I wouldn't even have known how to begin cheating in that game. It was just me having a much faster connection than him on dial-up. His complaints gave himself away as a cheater though as he moved unbelievably fast, even for me on my fast connection. No way could he do that stuff on dial-up so HE himself was a cheater. It was tiring at times to hear more of his complaints and not trusting me. We did have a lot of fun though! Sometimes getting on the server, waiting for people to arrive to play, and having a great convo with another member, not playing at all, haha. Using the server as chatbox. And I did meet most members of my clan when I went to the UK on holiday for a week :) Another UK guy joined later on and we clicked tremendously! I met him when I went on another holiday to the UK. He and his wife invited me to stay in a caravan on his driveway. I could sleep in there with my 2 kids and use the rest of the house during the day and the loo during the night too as they left the front door unlocked for us. So I met a lot of great people because of that game & clan :) Good times for sure! |
