i have a pitbull/pointer puppy and we might have to get rid of him tuesday to give him to the pound i dont want him to go so if any of u know how to get a pitbull/ pointer to stop bitting please help

Ummmmmmm, think its time for you to part ways, sorry. To many stories about this sort of thing, you want to lose part of your face while you are sleeping? Maybe you could call the humane society and they could give you some training ideas or places for dog training........just a thought. Sure hope you don't have kids

How old???? You talking "biting" or "chewing?"" BIG DIFFERENCE! And do NOT give it to the POUND! At least find a GOOD HOME! If its a PUP then it can be taught! Pits are VERY SMART! Look in my profile..I have one! I have had her since before her eyes were open..she doesn;t even know she;s a dog!

i agree with sumthin different they are very smart, i raised several pitts granted they were full blooded and not mixed..

we never really had a problem with ours biting though , they had chew toys and thats the only thing they ever would bite or chew on,

there are i'm sure lots of books that you could probably find , even ask a vet about it, could be a tooth bothering it

TRAINING is CRITICAL right now! if you do not have the time to spend with him (they are just like kids..you MUST teach them), then go ahead and find a home with someone who can teach him.

Just a guess, but I'm thinking you just recently got him, maybe within the month..and he is ina way "out of control" because no one took the time to set his boundaries.

Pits are especially critical because of thier strength and toughness. Thats why they have a "bad reputation" in the media and such.

But they can be the best loyal dog to you and your family...and still yyou have one hell of a good watch dog for the family as well.

just remember..find him a GOOD home where he can be taught if you don;t have that kind of time. At a pound he will wind up DEAD!

he has plent of chew toys and still bits

I have a Lab-mix and whenever she does this I lock her in the pantry for about 15 minutes with only water. Oh, then after I let her out I do passive-aggressive things like ignore her when she looks at me with pup eyes. Maybe this only works on Layla, my dog, but she has really never caused a problem like that in a good while, *knocks on wood* :) Hope this tip helps.

one way that we trained ours not to chew or lick...we put pepper on our hands and vinegar on parts that the dog might chew or bite on.

dog bites hand: gets pepper in mouth...it's unpleasant, and they quickly learn to stop. also, a stern "no!" at the same time to pair the negative with the pepper.

call your local vet and they can put you in touch with training classes.

try mesh muzzle---

If the dog is a male, they become less aggressive when they are fixed.

proper training is CRITICAL with pits...they are much too strong to rely on leashes and muzzles.

i don't agree with using a mesh muzzle, i believe in training the dog to obey WITHOUT necessary props.

get in touch with an obedience trainer that uses behavior techniques and does NOT advocate the use of punishment or pain in training.

Try watching the dog whisperer on the national geographic channel, that guy is amazing.
