I'm with Bluegrass. I have a landline with an answering machine. I do NOT have caller ID. 90 % of the time I do not answer untill after my message kicks in. If its a robo call they hang up. If its a doctor, friend or family and they begin to leave a message, I pick up and say hello. As someone else stated, the phone is for ME, not for the caller. Nature lady...I had toyed with the idea years ago of having *this* on my answering machine.. "Hi, I *am* at home, and in a moment, after I hear you voice, I will make a decison whether to pick up the phone or not..." |

well some of it has been fun
like getting a call from a "i all ready said i didnt wanna buy one" i answered and happily hit the talk to someone it was for a home house security deal free package prob just cost hook up and sub any who he give his little speech , and i am all happy to hear about it and want it so dude is like if you are interested i should be able to send someone out tomorrow i was like yes please he asks for an address i said well there is a problem there i dont really have an address , ya see , i live in a tent out back of barns and noble , i am the 3rd tent on the right , just past larry's tent (my buddy that had been listening is turning purple from holding back all the laughter) you said what sir is your address ? (the whole room behind the guy is silent as where was before some 15 to 30 voices, so i know i am on speaker phone i heard the click) so i repeated what i had said before i dont really have an address , ya see , i live in a tent out back of barns and noble , i am the 3rd tent on the right , just past larry's tent i heard like 3 people bust out laughen then the phone went dead for some reason , i have not gotten any home security calls since still worken on one for the car insurance repair one i was thinken of asken them if they insured rocket powered cars : ) tell them mine runs 3 or somethen , as i said , still worken on it |

with all the advancements its been a blast just got yelled at cause i wouldn't answer a call from a number i didn't know granted it didn't show on the fire wall on the cell that it was a mass call number its not like i put it on ignore i just slide it to the go to voice mail and that's really funny cause i never set me voice mail up so not really sure where it goes <shrug> but any who was wonderen am i the only one avoiding the robot calls ? do you all after being hounded by calls and being on the do not call list not answer calls where it don't show ya know who it is ? kinda makes me miss the house answering machine screening calls : ) they have been ridiculously annoying ... I am now just letting them go ... if I don't see I know them ... or expecting a call ... love caller ID using more often now ... an some you call back are out of service... |

I have a wonderful gadget on my landline which is very configurable. I have a 'White List' containing the numbers of family, friends and business contacts from whom I am happy to receive calls. There is also a 'Black List' for callers I don't wish to speak with.
Here in the UK we get many calls offering 'free' boilers under a government scheme and also 'PPI' insurance claims. Sometimes calls that start off, "About your recent car accident..." or even calls apparently from the makers of the best known operating system informing me that there is something wrong with my PC and I need to install some software (yeah, right) to correct the 'problem'. The third option, for all other calls, is 'leave a message'. Genuine callers can do this, the annoying ones just give up. As a result my phone only rings when someone on my White List calls me. As for the mobile (cell phone) there is call blocking software included. All I have to do is touch 'block' against any call and they can't call me again. I think that covers it! |
