We had 2 women lay out of work because a man got parole. They both ended up pregnant again. One baby #2 and the other baby #3. One man took the woman's car to go screw another woman when she finally came back to work. It's mothers responsibility that their kids have and not tax payers. It's time leaders in minority communities teach this.

2 women out of work because a man got parole ?
Who are these minority community leaders?
At least you don't stereotype or generalise.

Statistic don't lie. Pretending a problem doesn't exist, won't make it go away. Oprah seems to want to be an inspiration to her people. Just doesn't want to say the things that need to be said. Kanye is a Trump supporter so he is on the right path. Maybe blm should teach their people how to have a better life instead of continuing a welfare cycle.

maybe congress (white lives matter) should teach their people how to cope with adversity and disappointment, instead of picking up guns and mowing people down ..

wow, look at that, generalization works both ways ...

Most mass shooters have been Caucasian. However, the majority of gang violence and drug wars have been by black and Latino Americans. One needs to view the entire picture.

Using a mass shooter as an excuse to keep having babies out of wedlock and repeating a welfare cycle, is a dangerous attitude. These kids don't grow up with a work ethic and usually turn to selling drugs and stealing. Elvis has a song about it. In the song he makes it clear it's a cycle. I'm thinking he died in 1975. That's plenty of time for things to have changed.

well Ive read that report and as usual they are always one sided and report things that furthers their agenda.

Nothing can be further from the truth.

Look at facts, comparing poverty in America to third world poverty is ludicrous at best.

The poor in America have it better vs the poor in any developed and emerging societies, third world society and even some second world societies.

In America you dont have that, there are so many federal programs to help the poor, Third world countries dont have SNAP , or food stamps or programs like that.

Geneva (AFP) - The UN's top expert on extreme poverty warned Thursday that contemptful and cruel US policies towards the poor were disenfranchising millions, posing a threat to democracy in the country.

People living in poverty in the United States are seeing their rights "increasingly ignored", said Philip Alston, the UN special rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, he said a "complete lack of compassion" characterised US policies towards the poor, who are becoming ever more "invisible in the political process".

According to the latest available statistics, from 2016, some 40 million Americans live in poverty, 18.5 million live in extreme poverty, and more than five million live in "Third World" conditions.

-----------------------------------------------------

Alston in particular decried policies that punish and imprison people who cannot afford to pay bills or fines, weakening their chances of finding or holding a job, housing and stability, and fuelling a cycle of poverty and desperation.

"Mass incarceration is used to make social problems temporarily invisible and to create the mirage of something having been done," he said in a report published earlier this month and based on a visit to several US states and territories last December.

"It is difficult to imagine a more self-defeating strategy," the report said.

-----------------------------------------------

He warned that negative attitudes towards foreigners often foreshadow attitudes towards other vulnerable groups in a society.

"I think once you have departed from that basic commitment to minimum humane standards, it doesn't usually stop at the borders," he said, describing the developments as "deeply troubling".

Alston is due to present his report to the rights council on Friday, just days after Washington decided to withdraw from the body, meaning no US representatives are expected to be present to react to his findings.

Really? well, then maybe a move to some other country is in order...living here is no mandatory. you know I have been to my share of foreign countries.. saw many poor people with not even the basics.. no water.. no electricity..no work.. no food... no help.. no hope

Worked in China for about 2 years.. you want to see poor.. try looking there. Our poor are living on 5th Ave compared to the poor over there. And what did the "UN " say bout China's treatment of the poor.. hmmm.

not when one is 'nitpicking' , like matching the welfare cycle with BLM(Even though most of welfare recipients are white)

good for the goose and all ...

how much do you think the cost is for a person to survive living in the slums or any other impoverished country is .. I read a report that quoted a $1.25 a day . How would you judge or compare their quality of life to a beneficiary ??

Free housing, free food, free medical, free phone. Help with heat, transportation. That's why when I'm old, I'm going to give everything to my kids and get on the gravy too

If we cut out 3 meals a day, air conditioning, and cable tv, that might change. They should bring back the chain gang.

Zyklon-B works well in showers too.

I don't doubt that in the least. Since blacks make up 12.2% of the total population in this country, then it stands to reason that the whites would outnumber them by a good bit.

But, 39.6% of those blacks are on welfare.

Whites take up 62% of that population, and 38.4% are on the government dole. Now if I started talking about welfare recipients, I'm going to throw the blanket over the whole lot of them.

I'm an equal opportunity blanket tosser.

I would compare some things similar and some things not .... are we gonna double down on the 'its worse someplace else' argument though?

Ill go when those who complain about welfare recipients leave ... or is the 'if you dont like something, move' argument only one sided?

No, comparing our nation to other nations does not resolve anything. I do feel we have poor, destitute and homelessness that needs to be addressed before we allow multitudes of poor and homeless in from other countries. State governments (especially in the SW) are having to provide much needed money feeding and providing medical care for those coming into the country illegally instead of helping our own. Our priority should be helping our citizens who need help first. The democrate's and news media don't seem to see it that way.

They are keeping liberals minds on illegals while they cut medicare, Medicaid, social security, and foodstamps.
